DRONING NOISE FROM FRONT OF CAR ??

Hi all SWMBO,S 2009 HST model 92k one owner full dealer service history
naturally no sign of Haldex service so having it done in 2 weeks at RCV East Peckham Kent I have swapped the wheels round 2 new tyres on the front rears have 7mm across the thread when swapping wheels checked the bearings no sign of trouble there. when driving in a straight line there is no noise, when turning the wheel slightly left or right there is a slight droning sound obviously from something going round under a bit of pressure hence doing normal checks apart from this it seems to be running fine. Whistle
any thoughts much welcome
cheers

Are you sure it's not SWMBO? Whistle Common sense isn't very common.

Check steering reservoir filter isn't blocked. What happens if you are stationary and move the steering wheel left or right? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

My money is on a wheel bearing starting to wear out even if there is no noticeable play if you have had the car jacked up and checked the bearing by rocking the wheel. You can perhaps narrow it down to a particular wheel by finding a quiet road or empty car park and driving along at a steady speed and turning a little left and right and listen for the noise or do a big circle left then right. If you are unable to pin it down you could let it develop a bit more which should make it easier to pinpont. Good luck!

I agree with Dorset, I spent months chasing similar problem to this, no help from JLR or indie by rolling road or test drives. After the fault became tactile through the steering wheel - replaced reservoir plus oil and was pleasantly surprised to find no further road noise or resonance.

A cheap fix and great instructions + tips on this site for replacing and bleeding.

+1 for wheel bearings... Very Happy

Had the same and only makes noise when slight cornering....

Britpart do a great complete hub kit which is cost effective and good quality!

If you are considering doing the job yourself it is relatively simple...especially if you are buying the complete hub set...give everything a quick spray with WD40 or a release spray first to make things easier.. particularly the abs sensor which you need to ease out gently...

The only issue I had was the large bolt at the rear of the hub which clamps the hub to the suspension strut...this sheared .... but proves no problem if you are renewing the hub unit anyway however it’s worth ordering a new bolt to be able to finish the job... Very Happy

Mines just started droning at the front. 11 plate 117k
No apparent movement on wheel, not lifted up to check though.
Started about a week ago, but couldn't get it in to get checked at my indie.
I'm now up in the Highlands for a week.
Goes quieter going around a right hand bend, and vice versa on a left hand, so possibly the n/s wheel bearing?
Question is for me, am I going to be ok until we go back on Saturday morning as long as I don't go daft with it?
Any answers gratefully received if nothing else than put my mind at rest.
