The BBC are re-running Michael Palin's 'Pole to Pole'.

I have just watched tonight's episode 4 featuring travel through the Sudan.

I think vehicles were Toyota Landrangers, the roads are appalling, and many times they were grounded in the deep ruts.

The series is worth watching, as it shows the real conditions of travel, as it was some 30 years ago, and most likely still are.
