3.0 V6 Diesel

I see they are planning to launch the Disco4 with a new Jaguar/Land Rover 3.0-litre V6 diesel with 600NM of torque. http://www.wheels24.co.za/Content/Motor_Sh...iscovery_4

Anyone know if this engine will ever make it to the FL2? Will be one badass bundubasher! Razz

Also, when are they doing a facelift on the current FL2?

Unlikely since they didn't try and shoehorn the current 2.7 TDV6 into the FL2. Would be nice, but even nicer if they stuck the 3.6 TDV8 into the FL2, or even the 4.2 Supercharger Very Happy Phil

If you want a sports car then buy one - In my opinion, the current Freelander 2 has guts enough for what its meant for Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

I think it's more a marketing thing than size. If they can fit a straight 6 than surely a V6 will fit? Good thing I'm not an engineer... I would definitely have gone for the 4.2 supercharged V8! Smile

What if you wanted a sports car turn of speed but not the impracticalities (generalising here as I don't want to open a debate about how practical some sports cars are, I just like my FL2 size and space) of a sports car? Should I get an X5M? I'm not talking about racing round a track in the FL2, but I do wish I had a bit more power. Phil

Agreed. At altitude (Joburg is +-1.4kms above sea level) the petrol engine battles a bit and the diesel wasn't available with an auto box when I bought mine. The 3.0 V6 diesel would be perfect.

I still think lumbering up the FL2 with a bigger, heavier motor is pretty meaningless. If it was meant to be like that then I am sure Land Rover would have done it that way. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

I think the reason we haven't seen a bigger motor in the FL2 is that it would take sales from other LR models. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!

It'll never come out of the factory like it. All Freelander are transverse engines, whereas 3.0V6 is longitudinal. The Fords and Volvos that share the platform are all transverse too.

Try to mount 3.0V6 transversely in Freelander and you'll have two foot of transmission and diff sticking out of the wheel arch, longitudinally the dashboard would have a gearbox shaped hole in it and the driver would be sat on the back seat! Rolling with laughter

Although they did fit a V8 into Rover 75 (and never made a penny on it). Thumbs Up

There are N/S and E/W variants of the TDV6.

Either is too big for a Freelander without a lot of work, I would imagine. Discovery 3 HSE

The petrol I6 only fits in an fl2 because it has some fancy space saving arrangement to do with putting the drive belts/chains at the rear of the engine At work
