The glove box damper on my 2009 freelancer 2 is brought. The holding bracket snapped Glove Box Damper

for Land Rover Freelander 2 just where it fits to the body of the car. I thought it would be a simple matter of replacing the damper however I was in for a shock, they cost £165.00!! I’m sure 3/4 years ago when I bought the car and the damper needed replacement I only paid around £20. I very much doubt anyone has a replacement for a reasonable cost but I wondered if anyone else has had a fix for this problem? If not I will have to have a think or just remind my better half to watch her knees when opening the box!

Aliexpress has them cheaper but still I am shocked at the cost. Try Skan Automotive but their site is down you will need to call them or maybe another breakers.

Good grief - those prices are crazy.

Mine came apart and the grey tube wouldnt stay attached to the black plastic end. They are dis-similar plastics and solvent glue wouldnt work. In the end I use a "weld" from my hot glue gun .

Scrap yard may be a source of these items I suppose - worth a search. And if you find one for £20 let me know.  Jules

Mine broke too. I took it off and binned it. A damper for a glove box is not an essential for me 🤔 Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

According to PowerfulUK, "JLR trebled the price overnight" about 6 months ago. I guess they've got to offset their losses somehow.

Maybe its possible to adapt one from another vehicle - its a common device , or find the same part used elsewhere but at a sensible price Jules

I found that a cable tie around the lug holds it perfectly.

It might be a bit fiddly if you have sausage fingers though. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

Hi and thanks for the advice. I'm sorry for the late acknowledgement but I have been away and have had no signal, which was bliss!

I did use a cable tie which seemed to work perfectly. I had to do something as my wife objected to the glove box dropping down on her knees when she forgot there was no damper!

For your information I have found a damper for a Mondeo Mk 3 ST is the same size and fit except the piston is a little smaller. Before I went away I ordered it on the off chance, it was only £10.00, and if it was no good I could sell it on. It's now fitted and all is good.

I do not have the equipment, but if someone was to design and 3D print that bottom bracket it would be blooming useful for the entire community...

I seem to remember some one on here say that ........ after all your vehicle is a FORD with a LR badge.
