My Freelander 2 has developed a noisy exhaust. I jacked the car up today and put it on axle stands. As i took the metal undertray off a gasket popped on to the floor.

I can now see that the clamp that connects the exhaust to the turbo has snapped.

Do I need a new one of these metal crush washers or whatever it is or can I reuse the old one?

As you’ve got to replace the clamp, why wouldn’t you fit a new gasket at the same time?

Thank you for your reply and yes you are right. It was just to save time. I am going to go to an exhaust shop near to myself to see if they sell something suitable if not I will order a genuine clamp and gasket.

Thanks for your response Badger. My local Land rover dealer had the genuine parts on the shelf. Job done now.

Mine doesn't have a gasket. Exhaust flange just clamps straight onto the turbo outlet.
Just replaced the turbo, no gasket came off so no gasket fitted with the new turbo. As long as the surface is clean, fit's fine. No exhaust leaks.  Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

That's interesting gasman, my 2009 MY does have the exhaust gasket between the turbo and exhaust pipe.
It's the same as in the picture the OP posted.  2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

I think this has been mentioned before. I seem to remember Alex saying something to the effect that it wasn't required so long as the mating services are clean.
Maybe someone lost the one on my car before I got it. Would seem odd though as it had only had a couple of routine services before me.
As I said, it has no leaks so that's ok with me.
Just thinking, if there was a gasket, I wouldn't be able to get the clamp on. It's difficult enough as it is. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
