TentBox Cargo - Roof Tent

For anyone interested, the roof tent is now fitted! (TentBox Cargo)

I would aesthetically prefer it a few inches further back, though the spoiler gets in the way of the canopy poles.

the roof rails ........ they look like an 'after-market' part ?

I have seen tents placed on FL2 roofs before, one was even electrically elevated !

[ I'll have to look out the photos]

I would keep a very close eye on the front loading of the roof rail. Most of your load is over the front. If you can shift the front cross bar forward as much as possible it would be better. That's where the extrusions on my roof rails started cracking even with the front cross bar as forward as possible.

If I put the front rail further forward, it will 'belly the tent out' on the longitudinal rails and will also make the base sit uneven.

Im not going to be driving corrugated roads with double the advised weight limit for weeks on end as I know you have mentioned yourself doing before! Shocked It will only be up there for the summer months and mainly tarmacked roads, so I have faith Thumbs Up

Also, these aftermarket bars have good reviews compared to the OEM bars and are of different construction/geometry, already feel better just from touch, will see how they hold out! Mr. Green

When I had my roof platform on I had in effect a 3rd & 4th cross bar with rubber blocks firm down onto the rails (now replaced with 4 crossbars). The platform I completely rebuilt narrowing the gaps between extrusions. It was a great place to move around on to take photos, but from this standpoint I could see the stress on the rails.

I would get the wife up there so you can see how much the roof rails flex. You will be surprised with the amount of movement from a third party view point, & that's while things other than the car being driven!
