Scotland 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey
Possible purchase FL2 auto-advice needed.

Good evening all,
need a wee bit of help and advice please.
I have a 2002 Disco2 auto which i love to drive etc.
Been thinking of getting an FL2 auto for some time now.
I am now nearly 79, don,t do off-roading but sometimes forestry tracks.
There is an Epsom green auto for sale at Glenfield Cars in Kilmarnock.
61 plate, 93k miles, looks ok . I do intend to go and see it tomorrow.
I know lots of members on here have shifted from Disco2,s to Freelanders.
Could i ask if anybody up here knows the car and if possible look at Glenfield,s website and give an opinion on the car.
Thank you in advance

have a close look at wheel arches as tow bar & wheels are actually quite corroded.
The trim pieces in the arches you can move, and check for rust on the edge of the wings.
i don't think it appears the best loved example by far.Drivers seat looks tired
It hasn't actually been prepared that well for sale.
Good luck Jaguar x-type sport gone

Just having a quick look, though the 61 plate SD is the more desired engine/gearbox configuration the white XS is the better buy regarding condition and spec. Don't live that far from there so if you have a problem give me a pm and we can talk on the phone or even meet. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

thanks to both.
Dartman, intend to come down probably late morning tomorrow.

The white is a nono for SWMBO. Hates white.

Oldg, will look closely at your points.

No rush, just saw this one and the colour is the same as my old Disco 1.

MOT history bears out what oldgeezer says above... “I don’t think it appears the best loved example by far”.

Advisory on last (October 2019) was: 'Offside Front Play in steering rack inner joint(s)'. That fault probably still exists.

The wheel arch trims are shot on the front - not massively expensive. This car looks as though it has had a hard working life.

Do check out the MOT history though... Failed and re-presented each year in 2016, 17 & 18.

I half thought the white one looked a better choice - better body condition on the face of it, higher spec etc - year older and higher mileage though. And an even worse MOT history from 2016. The most recent - September 2019... “Vehicle structure is corroded but structural rigidity is not significantly reduced (6.1.1 (c) (i))”

Reggie, hadn,t thought of checking MOT,s.
I may be 78 but only had to buy a car after retired.
In 16 years have only had two cars , a Disco1 and a Disco2.
Both been alright but as my Disco 2 is now 18 we were thinking about a replacement and a Freelander 2 is the preferred choice.
Been looking on and off and this one caught my attention.
Will go and look as the more i look the more I will know what to look for.
Thanks for all the advice and keep coming with any more.
Anybody had dealings with Glenfield of Kilmarnock?

Jim A.

Never let your heart rule your head.
I was attracted by the green colour of the FL2.
Decided not to go and look.
One of my friends, who runs an FL2, had a look this afternoon.
Definitely a NONO, handles loose, rusty alloys not in good condition.
Anyway, with the sight of time and thinking i will stay with my Disco 2 at the moment.
Due MOT next month and has only done 3200 miles since last MOT.
I have spent inc ins, road tax, servicing about £1000 this year so far.
Chassis is good, new tyres, new battery 8 months ago.
Expect to pass OK.
Can i thank you all who answered my query and one day I will be a Freelander 2 owner.
No interest in any other type of car.

Thank you all again

Jim Anderson

"..... Chassis is good ......."

You know Discovery 2's are prone to cracked chassis over the rear wheels ????

As Jim said many on here have crossed from D2 to Freelander,
and a number of us have had the chassis rot too,
it seemed more common in later models, possible
when Ford changed the supplier,

I take my D2 to Gibsons at Cumhock for a full service and chassis check/repair every year since I got it in 2013.
Its had 7 full services in 42k miles, including autobox oil changes
"Oil is cheap, an engine isn't" i was taught by a works manager many years ago,.
Anything reported by mechanics or advisories at an MOT I get repaired.

But once again, thanks to all
