Low Pressure Fuel Pump - How to test???

Morning All
Having a few issues with my beloved Land Rover.

Is there any way to test the in tank fuel pump? Sound on start up?

Have checked the fuse and that seems OK.

Car broke down yesterday, showing 1/4 of a tank. added more fuel and once primed the return fuel hose off we went again.
Filled the car up to the max and added 60Litres.
So am thinking that the left hand side of the tank saddle has around 8 litres of fuel left in it, which seems about right if 1/4 of a tank is around 17 litres of fuel. (68litre capacity /4 = 17 litres).

Any help greatly appreciated,

Are you sure this is not the well-know fuel tank wiring problem (Search on here) that causes low fuel warnings and eventual eventually leads to breakdown? Most get it in the end, myself included. FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

Thanks for the reply.
The reason I think its the lift pump is that the car actually run out of fuel, as it need to be bleed to get going again.
