Sat Nav, Radio and parking sensor problem

In the last couple of days the sat nav and radio have stopped working, the front parking sensors have been a problem for a couple of weeks.

The parking sensors now beep whether I am close to an object or not.

The radio and satnav turn off and generally don't work, there is no DAB radio signal.

The car is a 2011, Freelander 2 TD4 HSE

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Peter

Another member who's first post is a query.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated . . . . . why not say hello and introduce yourself? Sorry, just find it a little rude, perhaps it's just me

Sidthecat, yes it might have been rude not to introduce myself,

I have owned my car for 7 or 8 years covering about 165000 miles in it, the car isn't a hobby car or an occasional car, it has to work for a living, the bumps scratches and dings will attest to that.

This is the first real issue I have ever had with it and as I couldn't fix it with a hammer it must be an electrical problem.

Apologies for my first post being a question but without questions where would we be.

Sylf2, this may be a naive question but what is the correct procedure for a hard reset, is it as simple as disconnecting and reconnecting the battery?

Cheers
Peter

Hi, and welcome; wasn't having a go at you in particular, it's just nice for folk to say hello. There seems to have been a few instances where the first post from a member is a question.

Do the radio and sat nav work, then randomly turn off while driving, then come back on...repeat?

Hi Grue

its pretty much constant, like when there was a loose connection on the transistor radio I had when I was a kid.

Do you often travel with passengers? It could be that they sit with their feet up high in the footwell towards the fuse box. Lots of plugs down there that others have found can work loose. Might be worth getting down there and making sure that everything is secure.

Was watching a video on Youtube last night where a car had all sorts of strange things going on.
It turned out the alternator was producing 17.5volts which had blown a lot of electrics.

So definitely check the battery voltage before and after starting the car.

The screen and radio can drop out when the bluetooth phone module is on the way out, but when that happens it's more of them rebooting, starting up, then rebooting again on loop until the module dies completely. If they're constantly off then I'd be thinking a connection on the MOST optical loop that joins them all - if a link to one is broken then they're all affected. Not an area I've tinkered with yet though.

Apologies for not responding sooner, I have been away for a few days.

The unit is cycling, turning itself off then on again.

Oddly after driving for a couple of hours last week the unit came back to life and worked for an hour or so until turning itself off on the stroke of noon.

is this anything I can fix myself or is it a specialist job.

Cheched battery, output was OK, checked fuse box and wiring, everything in place.

Sounds like phone Bluetooth module dying to me. Mine did that for a few weeks, some days worse, some days better, until the Unit died completely. Because they're all on same loop or effects radio and screen as well. Grab a second hand one off ebay and replace - good guide on here if you search.

Parking sensors would be its own problem though. Clean them, check plugs, possibly replace dodgy one.

Grue

Thanks for the update, do you if disconnecting the module will confirm the fault?

It could be the bluetooth adapter, it could be any module connected to the MOST bus.

The MOST bus is a ring based media bus, if you remove a module you break the ring and nothing connected to the MOST bus will work properly. You have to close the ring again after removing a module for instance by placing a MOST shunt (partnumber LR019014) on the cable going to the module.

With a MOST shunt you can remove a module from the bus and see if it solves your problem. If removing a module does not solve the problem, connect it again and try the next one.
