3.2 i6 - Excessive noise pulley area

[code]Hello

I have the 3.2 i6 on ~121k miles, and it’s developed what can only be described as excessive noise from the pulley area as per the short clip below - its all running fine and no other issues otherwise… I suspect perhaps some pulley bearings have gone from reading a few topics on here, if anyone who knows more about this would think the same?

Useful to go to the garage with a faint idea of what needs looking at!

Thanks in advance for any tips

Is you alternator charging correctly? Check your alternator pulley bolt and the belt as well? @p_gill has made many , if not all Very Happy, excellent DIY posts on this site regarding the si6 Volvo engine, so, try the search function for "pulley bolt" and look for his nic?

Thanks - and yes seems to all be charging fine, no issues with starting or any wild electronics issues that come with bad/low battery…

Thanks - will have a search of his posts and see if there is anything similar

Try using a long screwdriver or simular to listen to the noise you might be able to narrow down the area it's coming from, I had a simular noise but louder and it turned out to be the A/C compressor.

This was the exact noise I had before my pulley disintegrated leaving me stranded at the side of the road with no power steering. I'd misdiagnosed the noise as coming from the air compressor and as I was about to go on holiday, decided to do further investigation when I returned. However, one morning uring the holiday there was a squeal and a grinding noise that started and stopped abruptly, but I drove it up a hill and then a bang as the plastic pulley shattered and the belt melted.
Not hard to sort , but a PITA to do as it involves moving the a/c compressor and associated brackets out of the way.

Thanks all - asked the garage to look into the alternator in particular and they confirmed the noise was from the pulley, so replacement's on order!
