They will be the 'diamond turned' version with 10 spokes I assume.
The only real solution is to have them refurbished.
I had mine done, but went for all over silver as opposed to the diamond turning once again, as it should be more durable.

Your wheels have a protective coat of lacquer that over time can get damaged by stonechips ,road salt etc. This then allows moisture to get behind and it slowly creeps further and further under the lacquer turning it cloudy. The moisture also attacks the alloy of the wheel which turns the top surface of the alloy powdery. You might be able to do a localised repair if the damage is confined to a small area but normally it means getting the whole wheel refurbished which involves putting the wheel in a lathe and removing a small amount from the top surface of the wheel then applying a top coat of lacquer. It is highly likely however within a few months or so that corrosion will start to reappear as diamond cut wheels need constant attention to keep corrosion free. A powder coated wheel is much more durable. Thumbs Up

My plain ordinary painted/coated wheels have large areas of bare alloy (or possibly the undercoat) where the paint has flaked off over the years, it looks not too bad as the alloy is almost the same colour as the finishing coat of paint Laughing Regards

David

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again......

You need to get all the loose corroded aluminum off and sand and clean well. I plasti-dipped (5-7 coats each with mat black) some 21 year old rims on a previous vehicle and they lasted a good 4-5 years with just a touch-up spray here and there (sold them to a buddy over a year ago). Just keep wd-40 or Krown rustproofing off the plastidip and you are good to go.......easy peasy. Google vids on Plasti-dip a great product if you are going for functionality over perfection.

Those diamond cut alloys look great when new but quickly degrade if they are not looked after meticulously. I dont have them but a good quality wheel wax regularly applied would help prevent any chips in the lacquer from spreading corrosion. Think I'd be inclined to use them in spring / summer and change to a winter set of wheels for the bad weather? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I wouldn’t even try..
you’ll end up ruining the wheels unless you were going to repaint them a complete one colour... get them professionally repaired.. the best company in the SE are Lepsons in Gillingham but they also do a collection service.. they will come back as good as new!! Smile

Lepsons price seems reasonable if you are planning to keep your car for a long time. Its under half the price of a new set.

On my first FL2, the lacquer failed and I had a similar problem to you, I decided to take out the smallish damaged areas, and polish out the corrosion, finishing the area in clear lacquer. From a normal viewing distance it didn't show, and it stopped any further deterioration.

I have paid more attention to cleaning and polishing the wheels on my present Metro, and luckily, they are still undamaged. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
