'Reduced Engine Performance' with P0234

Hi all,

Driving up the highway yesterday with cruise set at 110km/h, after 15 mins it gives the REP message & gradually loses power.
Got home later but clearly in limp mode & well down on power. Nanocom comes up with the P0234 error code (turbo overboost). Having read most of the threads on here re this issue, most seem to point to the MAP sensor. I did a quick check on it & appears to do what it is meant to, gives around 1.5v at idle & increases in voltage as revs increase. I am wondering if after 10/15 mins driving it gets to a temperature that might cause it to fail?

Of course no one local has a MAP sensor in stock, so can't just buy one to check. Will give it a clean though & see if that makes any difference.

Your thoughts on a postcard please (or postage stamp)!

Cheers,

Nick

ps as an afterthought, could the fuel filter (due change shortly) also cause the P0234 overboost issue do you think? (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

Well 60 odd views & not even one comment from all you armchair mechanics?

I started by removing & cleaning both the MAP & MAF sensors. That made absolutely no difference (neither was particularly dirty either).

Then monitored manifold pressure whilst driving & that did exactly as expected, even after going into REP mode.

Gave it a bit of welly & on hitting 2200rpm big stutter/stumble!

Next on the agenda was to fit the new fuel filter, once again with no change whatsoever.

Finally put it up on ramps, bingo...turbo actuator rod blowing in the wind! Found the remains of the old circlip nestled down below the steering rack. A bit of lube & a (temp) clip for now & full power is now restored.

Cheers,
