Perfectly happy with the 09 FL2 HSE we have had for 5 years, just wondered how if it’s worth switching to the disco sport? How do the compare to drive?

I’d stick with the 2.2 engine to avoid the issues on the new 2.0 So would be looking at a 15 plate in HSE spec.

The 7 seats would come in handy I guess. Interested in anyone who has made the switch.

That's the Disco Sport I'd be swapping for if I was in the market to swap .

There are issues to be aware of when looking at a DS...a ticking B pillar. The fix might be termed brutal..hammers...chisels...welders etc..I'd want to avoid both one that had been 'fixed' or one that ticked.

I found the drivers seat gave me back ache as there was no adjustable lumbar support on my SE Tech. Never had that problem on a FL2.

Check the fan of the ventilation system. They can seize after left standing for a few days.

Def stick with the 2.2D

11 months so far in my15 ds 2.2hse and still loving it,mine has the lumber support so realy comfy.you will hear different horror stories but i am happy with my switch .hth

I had a year and 12,00mls of trouble free motoring in my 15plate 2.2 hse luxury. A lot of things will remind you of the Freelander but it is more car like in terms of seating position. You will enjoy the extra power from the SD4 over the earlier TD4. Sat nav and infotainment much more up to date that the earlier Freelanders. Mine had 7 seats and self parking both of which I never used.No issues with mine that would put me off buying another!

One interesting thing I noted, is I paid £12700 for my 09 HSE when it was 5 years old (5 years ago) with 50K miles. A 5 yr old DS HSE with the same mileage is around £20K, so quite a lot more.

I’ve been pretty impressed with the depreciation on the freelander though, it can’t of lost much more than 1K a year over the last 5 years and has been very reliable, the only thing that has needed doing is the rear diff.

I kind of wonder if the freelander might become a classic in the next 10 years as they start to become more scarce.

I’ve been through the same dilemma. Had a 60 plate basic Freelander S which had hit over 90k miles. I was considering DS or Evoque. I had had a few DS as courtesy cars from the LR dealer and, frankly, it just left me under-whelmed. In the end I decided that the FL was really the ideal car for me and tracked down a 64 plate SD4 SE with lots of bells and whistles, and a decent mileage. Cost me much less than an early DS would have, and I’m delighted with it so far. Feels like a big step up from the previous FL, but with all the advantages I’d come to love.

Make sure that you can live with smaller fuel tank first and don’t expect to put anything other than small children on the 3rd row.

Personally, if you must change, I’d go for the nicest, newest, FL2 you can find

We've got both, a 2.2 DS and an SD4 FL2

The DS does drive much nicer, but the 9 speed box can be a bit fussy
Its a much nicer place to be inside, and the tech is much better
Doesn't respond to performance tuning as well as the Freelander did, but I expect that's down to the extra cogs to mush through

Mine was the manual as I just didn’t like the 9 speed auto, it’s an awful gearbox. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

My boss used to have a Disco Sport, but now swapped it for BMW X5, as the DS was the most unreliable car he owned, as it spent most of the time at LandRover dealers with various issues.
That is one reason I bought a Freelander and not a DS.

I absolutely loved the FL2 and was very sad to see it go, in retrospect I should have kept it and not been badgered into the change by the wife and kids.
The Ewok I replaced it with was a dreadful bag of , so the first DS was always going to be a pleasure. Apart from some early adblue software issues it was faultless. Yes it dumped fuel in the sump, but changing the oil every 10-11K rather than every 21K was always on the cards so for me not an issue.

The second DS is great to drive, the two extra seats for me are a waste and will be ripped out soon to install a spare wheel. The DS does seem to tow better than the FL2, this is not to say that the FL2 wasn't an excellent tow car, but the DS is better. This one is due balance shafts in a couple of weeks, but while it's under warranty I'm not bothered. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
