Oscilloscope recommendations

What are people using. I see there are various types/models both standalone and laptop based.

Some very costly, others under £100.

Thinking of investing in an entry model myself. Hantek or such like but are they any use.

I know at the end of the day you only get what you pay for and there will be a learning curve involved.

I am using MCP DQ1102D: http://www.mcpsh.com/pd.jsp?id=103#_pp=0_305_183_-1
It's a rebrand of similar Hantek scope: DSO5102D.
A lot of functions, good price and the important of all, never failed me.

What do you want to do with it?

I've got the Hantek USB scope, incredibly useful for me working in automotive, cheap too. But has its limitations, especially the channels. I've also got the Hantek DSO, which is a bit more robust than an old CRT one. The 4 channel Pico Scope I occasionally have to use is better in every way except the £4k price tag.

And despite having so much digital equipment, my preferred and most accurate scope is an '8ⁿs Hameg CRT scope which I picked up locally for £15. It's on my bench, doesn't require a PC and just works. It's also what I was trained on.

In automotive I don't usually go much over 400hz so a 20mhz scope is fine.

Rigols over an excellent price point for DSOs

On YouTube EEVBlog has an excellent review of a range of budget scopes.

Thanks for the replies. I am looking for something at starter level, something to save on the parts cannon. I understand these tools are only as good as the person using them.

I admit to having one current objective. To investigate my B100A15 Fuel Pump Authorisation trouble code

I also admit to having a desire to own more tools.

I built mine for about £2 using a 50p 3" CRT (cathode ray tube) from an electronic junk shop in the 60's. It's pre transistor so a few radio valves inside. Still works fine but hardly ever use it these days. When I worked for ICL and the engineers stopped using scopes in the 80's they were given away to anyone who knew how to use one. I picked up a superb Solartron scope but within a few months it packed up completely whilst my home made one just kept going. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
