just looking through some old bills and noticing some of the items that were reported as needing attention on last service, one of them simply says "oil filter housing worn , just managed to fit oil filter"

sounds odd to me, as surely on a 2007 model there's only been maybe around 12 filter changes . . . . . and its worn out?

I am not that technical, but would it be safe to say this may relate to the plastic filter housing rather than the metal bit it attaches to ?

Mine got pretty torn up getting it off after a service where the mechanic must have put all his weight behind tightening. 30quid for new one from memory

They are plastic and unless you’ve got the right length of spanner then they are very easily damaged...I would suggest a previous owner has tried to change the filter and ruined the cap...very very easily done !

Order a new one!

Car serviced recently, drove home the 30 miles and parked up for 48 hours. Went off to help friend move house, made one journey, no more than 10 miles on the day. Back to his and oil pouring out underneath. Car had to be recovered home as it was a Saturday and garage closed. Recovered again on the Monday and it was reported that there was a fault with the oil filter supplied by their factors. All sorted without a problem, car delivered back to me.
Perhaps the filters are prone to be faulty?

Sounds like the plastic cap was not sealing in the metal housing - not tightened enough or O-ring damaged. Its very hard to see how well its going when screwing the cap back on - done more by feel than anything else.

I changed the oil & filter on my mates FL2 yesterday - although Ive done it many times I still hate trying to access the oil filter. As soon as you shove you hand/spanner up you cant see where it needs to go. Jules
