What's missing from the Land Rover range?

The LR range is complete with the new Defender and a Disco Sport. All posh, expensive, modern looking models.
However, isn't there a feeling that a new entry level car would fit into the range and boost sales?

I'm thinking something along the lines of the FL1 in style and philosophy, and no longer than 4.3m like the Evoque.
For the price, we might not expect a low range gearbox (although look at the Jimny).
Starting at below 30,000 pounds for psychological value. Rugged, fun, urban but off-road, like a Jimny but in a LR mode.
And called the new Freelander...

What do you think? Any rumours?

I was watching a TV programme about the "Yorkshire Shepherdess" Amanda Owen and noticed how they bought a small pony and got it in the back of their Defender to take home. I somehow can't see anyone doing that in the new Defender, too plush. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Rumour has it that LR are producing a new Range Rover sub £25,000 with all the badges and outward signs of a posh, expensive car but it does not have an engine or transmission and can't go anywhere. It is marketed at the snob market to park on their drive to impress the neighbours.

My cousin in Nairobi has one like that. Not sure if it impresses the neighbours though even though it once went on the East Africa Safari Rally.

Don't park against a wall on the passenger side! It will need frequent road service to charge the flat battery for the regular software updates.

LR will have the limited edition oversized logo brick 4WDriving fake rock for the wheel to compliment the logo mudflaps. Buy a £500 spare just in case the first rock crumbles. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Still reckon JLR shot themselves in the foot by not making the DC100 swb- especially the 2 door open top sport version as a sub £25k entry level vehicle . I reckon if they had just gone ahead and produced it as a Freelander 1 sized vehicle with the DC100 looks, it would have been a winner. However, they kept on touting it as a Defender replacement (Defender Concept 100). It was obvious very early on from the feedback that design was never going to be accepted as the Defender replacement. BUT it would have been a great little Freelander 1 3 door replacement - something the brand is missing. I loved mine and wished they had made a 3 door Freelander 2.

If they made it so that you could swap between open or hard top, they would make a killing. What I mean is, if you bought the hard top, you "could" in theory be able to take off the top and replace it with the open top package and vice-versa. So it wouldn't matter which version you bought initially- you could always change in the winter or summer and JLR would make a killing selling both hard and open top kits . Oh, and the hard top kit should be designed so it could be broken down in to several pieces to aid storage.
Strange thing was, my work colleagues who never liked the original Defender, actually liked the DC100.
If they called it the Defender Sport, I reckon they could get the sales. People who cannot stretch to a Defender, but like the idea of a small compact off roader . The same sort of "new" customer that the original Freelander 1 brought to the brand.
Sorry. I'm going on a bit now................

I think that this is Autocar / Landrover latest rumour (this week says it's due out in 2021).
It seems to be based on a rebadged Tata Harrier (retail in India about £18,000) , or at least its platform, which is in turn based on a 'cost reduced, but modernised' old Discovery Sport (Freellander 2?) chassis.

Interesting article in this weeks Autocar, image looks like a rounded DC100.

Unfortunately, Autocar now complete directly with AutoExpress in the “invent a Photoshop rehash of existing Land Rover pictures and making a story up around it” stakes.

I actually like this "depiction"....reminds me of the Toyota FJ Cruiser but cleaner.

I'd buy one of those. The Land Rover Juke 🤣 Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
