Trailer insurance

My car insurance covered my Ifor Williams P7e trailer for accident and theft only when attached to the car.
I, stupidly, assumed that it would be covered under my house and contents insurance when its stored at home as it was valued at well below than the £1000 limit for specific items - I bought it secondhand 4 years ago for £800.
It was stolen from my drive last night (padlock and chain defeated). Evil or Very Mad
I rang LV only to find that trailers are regarded as vehicle accessories and not covered at all.

Also not covered are any garage tools or devices specifically used for vehicles eg ramps, jacks, pumps - again classed as vehicle accessories.

Out of curiosity I got a quote from a trailer insurance on-line company - £110 per year for a £1400 trailer with an £150 XS Shocked

I only have it for domestic use - trips to the tip, helping the kids move house. sand & cement etc.

Anyone got a better deal for their trailer insurance. Jules

It would likely be under your home insurance if it was stolen off the driveway of your home. Your deductible might simply cover most of the lass however?

Unless it is specifically stated that trailers and tools appertaining to vehicles is on the exclusion list then they should pay out, there are a few insurance companies hiding these exclusions, there is also a difference between LV and LV via Nationwide rather similar to UK Insurance via the RBS group and UK Insurance via other non RBS groups, the indirect cover via non direct or non affiliated companies is usually a better cover. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

LV's website says "garage and shed contents automatically covered" No mention of exclusions.

But if you look through the 40 page policy document you will see trailers are NOT covered. Nor will LV allow an "add-on" to cover trailers.

Devil is in the detail and buyer beware.
Lesson learned as Im will be about £2200 out of pocket if I replace with a new one. Hopefully I can find a cheaper similar secondhand one. Jules
