Any tilers on the forum?

Spent the day stripping the old tiles off the bathroom walls

Now there are patches where the old tile adhesive has striped the original plaster skim off the wall down the the paper backing of the plaster board, and in some areas its gone past the paper to the plasterboard itself. There is also a few smaller indentions where the chisel went more into the wall than taking the tile off.

I am going to re-tiling the walls with porcelain tiles but would like to have a little advice......

Do i need get the walls re skimmed with plaster or could i get away with a waterproof BAL (?) coating painted on to the walls Question

The bathroom will not have a shower in, just 100% tiled wall & floor, but will have a bath which does its best to contain the water from a 3year olds attempts to splash it all out

Since the tiles are costing quite a lot of money i want to get it right Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I lined my walls with exterior grade ply before tiling, this was mainly due to the surface being very bumpy so I had to have a level finish to set the tiles onto. It was for a power shower and had to be right, hasn't leaked yet after 3 1/2 years Thumbs Up

porcelain tiles! I put them on my kitchen floor , tough sods to cut but indestuctable once layed. I ended up borrowing a diamond bladed tile saw. but I guess wall tiles will be a lot thinner than floor ones.

You might find it easier to strip the plasterboard skin off the wall and put a freash skin on
no need to skim if you are fully tiling, makes for a much easier job in the end

I'm in the building trade if its really bad you will need to filled the large holes with carlite bonding then re-skim the walls with carlite multi finish then once dry the walls will need PVA glue on them to seal the surface or the new tile wont stick and they will fall off. Freelander2 GS TD4 Manual in Lago Grey Smile .Roof Mount DVD 9.2''Screen~Window Tints~Parrot CK3100 Bluetooth~Retro Fit Sony Satnav~iPhone Dashmount~Side Steps~Woodco Armrest~Mudflaps~Land Rover Sunglass Holder~LED Interior Lights~Private Plate.Evoque Collected 17th Sept 2012.

I have been informed via a tiling forum that there is no need to reskim

Applying a coat of BAL ADP Primer should be ok, they either filling the gaps with one shot filler, then re ADP the filler

Need to patch in a couple of larger holes and where the shower was taken out, but thats all in hand too

Thanks for the help Very Happy Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
