Rust on rear sill

Hi all,
Not sure if this is a common issue but I have found some rust at the back of the rear OS sill (when viewed with door open).
It seems to be surface rust but I wondered if the chunky sill trim is easlily removed to treat it properly? I can’t find anything on here or online.

Photo isn’t mine as I’m not near the car but I have high lighted the area affected on a photo I got online.

Yes it’s very common there and under the silly rubber arch strips,I cleaned mine down used rust killer and painted, pain having to leave the door ajar while the paint dries.

Unfortunately, you'll probably find even more at the front when you remove the plastic sill protector as it collects and holds mud against the sill...... (Although I think that would be less if you have front mudguards).

I've just done this project. The sill protector takes about 15 minutes max to remove and is held on by about 8 scrivet fixings and a few screws underneath as well as about 8 popper fixings down the side. Whilst is off, its worth injecting the sill with a cavity wax as it will seep into the join at the base of the sill to give some protection in there.

I wire-brushed off the surface rust on my sills at the front, undercoat, hammerite and underbody wax before putting the plastic protector back on.

Good luck Thumbs Up FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

A bit of a bumbling video Rolling Eyes but 1.25 minutes in should give you an idea.

Thanks Dave,

Funnily enough I just watched one of their videos on fitting the facelift tailgate handle as mine has a bit of rust around it which will be hard to hide afer painting unless I have a bigger handle. Neil
