Battery Charging

As I'm shielding I'm not using my Freelander. I should explain I live in a tower block and have no access to a power plug to charge the battery so to help the situation I recently bought a Solar Panel, to charge the Battery. It comes with two crocodile clips and a cigarette plug. To set it up can I just plug it into the cigar lighter or need i connect it directly to the battery.

Thanks

I dont know anything about solar panel charging. I use a CTEK mains charger.

However If your cig lighter remains live permanently then I'd use that.

On later models the car switches off the cig lighter feed off after a few minutes in which case connect to the POS terminal on the battery and somewhere else on the chassis - its not recommended to connect to the NEG battery terminal when the battery is in situ because some modern charging systems are adversely affected. I dont know if that would apply to your car though. Jules

What power solar panel?
If it's more than 10 Watts, it'll need a charge controller, or it'll boil the battery.
If it's one of those 1.5 Watt panels, then it'll hardly charge the battery at all. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.
Hyundai Ionic 5 Ultimate on order.
Gone. 2006 Tonga Green i6 HSE.
