Australia 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Ipanema Sand
Engine oil filter

What a diabolical location! Just done my first change on the FL.
I always thought my Disco 1 was a pain. I could do brake pads quicker than the oil filter. Reckon I could do pads AND rotors quicker than this one.
Nice to get the first one out of the way, at least I know what I'm about from now on.

Used Penrite C1 oil for those members in Oz. MY11 SD4 SE Auto

After about 40 years in the motor trade I thought it was a right Censored to get out when I did my first one. Then I listened to those on here and bought a 27mm swivel head ratchet spanner. Easy Peasey! Try it Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Below. Snap the ratchet end onto the plastic filter housing (there’s a couple of spring tangs on the nut that will hold it on), angle the spanner and undo. Really, really easy. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I would swop it for the most expensive range rover, I would then sell that and buy another freelander i6. Very Happy Common sense isn't very common.

I have to agree with GlynnB, I do the filter from the top every time using the flex head ratchet spanner, it is a piece of cake & no cruddy oil running down your arm either. Very Happy (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

If you go from above do you have to remove anything to get access? Looks amazingly tight!

snappa I've never removed anything to get the filter out from above but others do remove the fan assy for more access. I guess a lot will depend on the size of your hands/arms. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

Did mine from the top also. Didn't need to disconnect anything.

Left a fair bit skin from the back of my left hand on something or other down there.

But extracted the filter through the bottom. MY11 SD4 SE Auto
