Driving a ford through a ford Rolling with laughter

now if he had driven in slowly, and then accelerated gradually he MIGHT have made it through. Instead he went for the ''WOW THIS IS FUN'' factor of driving fast and literally flooding his engine.... muppet !!

350mm is the standard deepest EU wade test for Fords (well it was 10 years ago) at 10 kph......shallower depths are are waded at faster speeds, mainly for testing parts are not torn off rather than water ingress damage, we had to make sure we could drive through without hydraulic damage.

We got the Mondeo for India to wade at 450mm......looked hairy but worked with the intake moved to inside the LH wing.

One of the worst tests (for the car, we thought it was great fun Wink ) was the drive by test using a Transit driven at high speed in the opposite direction, that could easily cause water ingress for the test vehicle. Regards

David

That's like the air intake on the FL2

as its on the left hand side grill, nearest the roadside in the UK (car was clearly designed with LHD as the primary market) when you go through slightly deep standing water (1-3 inches) on the kerbside, the wash of water stands to be drawn into the air intake.
Sometimes it unavoidable particularly if your driving at night or in rural locations where the pooled water isn't so obvious from a distance

Indeed but the Mondeo version was actually inside the wing between the wheel liner and the top of the panel at the rear, no chance of water splash from outside.

Agree that in LHD markets a serious drive by could be an issue, but hopefully they have installed plenty of drains, valves and S bends on the way to the filter, not even looked to be honest. Regards

David

That's all right knowing the cars wading depth and going in slowly, then building to a bow wave.......BUT
anyone trying this, think first how much rain has fallen and is there a river near by?
It's very easy for large stretches of road surface to be washed away leaving the water far deeper in places than it looks and then you could have a situation with the car floating.
Stay safe guys Thumbs Up

Couldn't agree more, all good fun doing under controlled conditions "when you have to" but out in the real world unless there is a very good reason, find another route!

Woohoooo!!

very worrying !

potentially sitting on up to 440 volts & 100KW of electric

I recently repaired a a Lexus Hybrid and all that had had was a 500 mil cup of coke poured accidentally through the back seats after a quick drive through. It was enough for the liquid to creep into the batteries under the seats and short out the battery controller and batteries ! It was a few grand to repair !

Interestingly some of the hybrid handbooks if you can be bothered to read about 300 pages actually advise against carrying liquids in the boot in case of spillage !!!!!!!! Need i say more . So in other words dont use it for shopping ! Rolling Eyes Jaguar x-type sport gone

correct me if im wrong but are only certain garages are licensed to work on the power train side of EV due to the high voltages/currents being used ?

I know any garage can work on the mechanical side of them but I would hate to think of some of the garages round here working on the electrics Shocked
