Freelander 2 - Throttle Body/Valve Issue

Hello everyone,

I own a Freelander 2 - 2.2 TD4 (2008) at 100K miles. It started to make a continuous clicking noise coming most probably from the part seen on the picture. This happens only when I insert the remote control into the starter control unit (without pushing the start button). I couldn't hear whether the noise stops when I start the engine. But noise definitely stops when I remove the remote control.

Dealer says it is related to throttle valve and suggests replacing the unit. Can the throttle valve make a noise even before starting the engine?

Any idea what this problem could be related to?

Thanks in advance.

Update: Throttle body has been replaced and the clicking noise is gone.

Since I bought the car 2 years ago I have been hearing a very low screeching noise coming from the engine when I rev it up. That noise is also gone now. Clearly it was a throttle body related issue. Engine responsiveness is also better probably because the fuel filter is replaced too.

Thanks again for all the help and comments.

I can’t see any pictures but I had a relay clicking in the passenger footwell when I had a steering lock problem.

Yes, probably a damaged gear in the throttle body and it is trying to reset it self ready to start up.
The throttle body will usually wine when inserting the key and after shutting the engine down.

Does a throttle body need calibrating after replacement ?

In a related matter does anyone know if a calibration of the throttle body is required after its changes? I'm changing mine on Tuesday but could get a definitive answer from searches in Google. If it does can anyone help ?

When I fitted mine I switched the ignition on waited for the throttle body to stop hunting then started the engine, ran a bit rough for about 30 sec then was OK.

Mine was just a case of "fit and forget" and it was absolutely fine.

No calibration. Steve
