Steering column Lock fault

Hi my steering lock has started playing up !....when i place phob into slot there is a few click from behind dash and under passenger seat and dash info states 'steering lock on'...do this few times and a bit hit an miss at first ...now more so than ever only way to get going at mo is, Ive removed lower column cover and I tap steering lock that seems to work..it seem like lock sticking ...Not sure ....any way I have managed to remover the tamper bolts and lock and oil lock, and replaced it with std bolts for now....Im told if I need to replace it will need software update to work...Any advice appreciated ...Thanks
