United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey
Got locked out

Went to work only a few miles from home. Got out to use the key code to get in, leaving the car running.
When I went back to the car to drive in, I was locked out, engine running.

My lad brought the spare fob to my workplace , but it wouldn’t open the car, the remote opening did not work.

Eventually I opened the cap on the passenger door handle and opened the car with the key inside the fob.

Has anyone else had this?.

Any ideas what might be happening? Car has no other faults that I know of First and only FL2 from new. Stornaway Grey 77k

That's worrying! Would be interesting to find out what happened. Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental

I've been locked out 3 times now with the key still in the ignition and twice while the engine was running. 1st time I was stopped in traffic and got out to close the tailgate properly, tried to get back in and couldn't. Luckily that time I happened to be outside the field station and an off duty fireman was able to wedge passengers door and use a metal bar to actuated the unlock button on the dash.
Yesterday t work I spent 2 hours trying to repeat this exercise before I got the car open.
I haven't found anything about this problem and would welcome any advice.
I was wondering if a hard reset might work.
I don't have a second fob but did just get a key cut. I might just put this on a chain around my neck, I've never felt so helpless in my life, especially when I tried putting a brick through a side window. So that's what toughened glass looks like! Shocked

Love my Freelader 2 2010 HSE

Thanks in advance

It’s not supposed to happen but it does. On a couple of occasions when I’ve been out in my Evoque, I’ve accidentally closed the tailgate (electrically operated) having left the fob in the boot. The tailgate closes but opens automatically. That’s supposed to happen. On one occasion it didn’t and locked the fob in the boot of a locked car. Luckily the car was on my drive that time so I just used the spare fob to open it. You just have to be careful with these things. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.
