Will the next Velar become part of the Road Rover Family?

I have been reading in the Autocar that the upcoming 'Road Rover' will be an all electric car, and will much lower and aerodynamic than most existing Range Rovers.

It goes on to say that the next generation Velar (4 years away) will be built on the new lighter aluminium MLA platform, and will have an all electric version.

Are they going to start a 4th family of Land Rovers, lower, lighter, slippier , and electric. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

It would be more logical to build a new model from the ground up. It would be the best way to reduce weight for the battery. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Unfortunately, Autocar isn’t the credible source of information it used to be. If it’s talking about LR’s plans that are 4 years out, then it’s a safe bet that it’s making it all up Wink

I am sure that you are right.

and I can believe that the next Velar on this platform will be new 'from the ground up', and lighter. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

According to the investor’s presentation, the new mid-height model line-up will consist of two Jaguars and one Range Rover. It’s thought that the Range Rover model will be the new ‘Road Rover’ and that the other is likely to be a Jaguar road car – most probably a pure EV replacement for the ageing XJ limousine, as previously uncovered by Autocar.

Last year’s presentation also suggested that four SUVs – Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, new Defender and Discovery Mk6 – will be built using the ‘high-rise’ version of the platform. There will be seven models based on the ‘low-rise’ MLA, potentially including the next F-Pace and Velar, as well as the Discovery Sport and Evoque and – possibly – two Jaguar saloons.

Oddly we were at the Cornwall Showground yesterday and were waiting behind a Velar (I thought at first it was an Evoque) and was very surprised to be at the same eyeline........and we were in the i3 ! Now the i3 is quite a high seating position (the H point is the same as an Audi Q3) but it certainly was unexpected to see the Velar being so (apparently) low, I think officially its only about 100mm higher roofline than the i3. Regards

Every LR will switch to MLA platform, and every model will have some form of electrification. The only way to get cars through EU7 will be with some form of electric assistance.

The Velar was intended to be LRs most road focused car, and it does that job brilliantly. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

This is why I wondered if JLR were going to use the upcoming 'Road Rover' and the 'Velar' to start a new all electric, road-focused, family of cars. Possibly all under the 'Road Rover' name. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
