Pound to a Penny that it's a sticking actuator arm!

Yes agree sticking actuator arm, not stuck at present but pretty sure it will re-occur at some stage, hence the decision to go ahead with the repair

Well they topped up the coolant and so far no more leaks!!!

Labour apparently it took 11 hours work but warranty company will only cover 6 as this is apparently the standard time issued by the main dealer so this has cost me £380

So bit miffed about the £380 but finall y have it back just need to keep an eye on the coolant levels for the next few days.

That's a ridiculous amount of time for replacing a turbo - even including strip down and removal of the old one it's no more than 4 hours from start to finish.

You've been robbed, frankly.

4 hours, that is impressive according to the warranty company they asked Land Rover main dealer and they said 6. There were issues getting things off/apart due to corroded bolts etc. But I admit to some extent I have been mugged off wont be using said garage again, (Well car is out off warranty now so DIY is the way ahead) If the turbo ever has faults again I shall remove it myself or try to find someone who can do it in 4 hours!

Removing the entire manifold saves an awful lot of time in the first place. It's also a lot easier to attach the replacement when it's on the bench rather than in situ.

It wasn't a Land Rover Specialist, bottom line is I had a bit of a nightmare due to the warranty that came with the car. Initial Land Rover specialist who confirmed my icarsoft fault diagnosos estimated 6 hours but refused to to the job in hand as he wanted to fit a new part to warrant his repair. The warranty company wanted if possible to fit a reconditioned unit. I then had to go to the approved warranty company garage to get the repair progressed. Despite being booked in and the car sitting there for 6 days they did not lift a finger on it due to being to busy/illness etc. So I removed it and went to another garage I had used previously. Where the turbo was removed and in the event a brand new turbo was sent back and fitted. For whatever reason seized bolts etc this took 10/11 hours. It may of been the first Freelander SD4 turbo they have done so pretty sure they could do it a lot quicker second time around.

All I can say is if you a compentent at DIY do not take a warranty that comes with a used car from my experience now I can say they are genrally garbage and not fit for purpose. For example mine did not pay for consumables, oil filters etc, time over the average to do the task and limit on labour was £45 per hour +vat. End of the day although the warranty was pants and it seemed to take forever to sort touch wood I am up and running again with a brand new turbo.

I did look at renewing the warranty with alternative companies but at the end of the day after reading the small print they really are not fit for purpose.

I have only had the car six months, had the haldex coupling done, fuel filter replaced, and now the turbo charger, over £2000 of repairs (my contibution £500) but I love this car when its working so hopefully I can have some trouble free motoring now

Garage recommendations: there are two as far as I know landrover specialist local to me Westley Garage, Helston who I can recommend and Steve Toyer at Penryn (Recommended by my neighbour) The Main Land Rover Dealer at Truro is also good but obviously a lot more expensive

Thanks for that, I had heard of the garage at Penryn and has great reviews, my local specialist is Tamar Country Cars just outside Liskeard, they were very good with my FFRR but yet to take the FL2 there.

As to warranty cover I couldn’t agree more, although this time as the FL2 is now 12 years old and I cannot do the bending/laying under greasy bits anymore I took out AA cover along with the AA repair warranty, covers up to £500 (£50 excess) for up to (I think) 4 or 5 repairs a year!

And I read good reviews of the service, you never know it might work Laughing Regards

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Santorini Black

Last Saturday I had the restricted performance message and red warning light. As I was lucky enough to have LR Assist I rang them and AA attended within the hour. His computer said P0046 turbo charger boost pressure and he was pretty sure it was a sticky actuator but still had to go the dealer. So off we went, A A arranging a replacement en route. He said you may just have to take what they give being a weekend. Don’t think so. At the dealers they had a one month old Jag ePace HSE, 1300 miles. A week later just got mine back fitted with a new turbo, washed, vacuumed, etc. £1500 but thankfully not from my pocket. The warranty has paid for itself already but hope I don’t need it again. Great service from the dealer. The Jaguar was very nice but not for me. Very happy to get back into the Freelander.

2014 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black

Hi all,

As per the original post I have had the exact 4 codes pop up on my reader.

I have just changed the intercooler pipe, the old one wasn't split but i changed it anyway and the faults are still there.

What would be the next logical step to try and fix this issue?

many thanks MY2014 HSE Santorini Black

I have now replaced the top pipe with no effect to the error messages. I've also felt around the bottom hose but nothing obvious, ill also buy a new earth strap as well.

Can anyone suggest the next item to check please? MY2014 HSE Santorini Black

Can you delete the codes?

Whilst waiting to be repaired my codes cleared but I expect it would only be a matter of time, before the fault came back.

Sounds like a turbo issue same as mine. Find out year/ model of vehicle to get correct turbo. Get a fixed price for labour Landrover said 3 hours.

Yes i have deleted codes, taken for a road test when cold, but the restricted performance comes up again when warn apparently.

although now its just the P0046 code and not the others.

Im thinking its probably electrical because its a 14 plate with only 66k miles on, is the electrical connector to the turbo easy to reach?

i think it would be worth taking a look at the connector before i take it to a LR specialist. MY2014 HSE Santorini Black
