This is the ARB which is probably the same as the cheap version.

Rubber cover over rear of sensor to reduce some of the dirt covering the back, but the sensor is pretty well sealed.

Thank you finding this very confusing, these replace the dust cap and read out screen is placed on dashboard, how does it get readings? WI-FI ?, Bluetooth ?

The TPMS has its own dedicated signal from each of the sensors. Maybe if you are at traffic lights & someone else has the same setup next to you there might be some false readings, but I doubt the signals would reach beyond 20 metres when it really matters when on the move.

I should imagine that it would work on the same principle as just about anything else, like your smart meter/weather station/ doorbell et al and transmit wirelessly on 802.11ac. Sensors are in the dust caps which measure pressure and beam it back to head unit.

He waffles on a bit at the start of the video but explains well.

I love You Tube, if you going to do a job you can guarantee some person somewhere has done it and it helps a lot, did the Blower fan and Resistor on a MK1 Focus the other week, didn't fancy the job but watching youtube showed it wasn't too bad to do. This video helps but I guess the secret is to get the tyre pressures correct in the first place! 2014 Freelander 2 XS TD4

Funny you should say that, our main car is an i3...and being EV is totally silent when running under 15mph or so, in our local town in the Summer it is an absolute nightmare with the holiday makers meandering across the single lane (one way traffic light system) almost no pavemnt high street, so installed a wireless doorbell under the hood, makes a definite "ding dong" but the silly gits still just wander across in front of us, firghtening it is.

Anway...getting to my point....when we got the FL2 a few weeks ago I thought the doorbell on the i3 was getting a low battery as it kept going off when I wandered onto the drive, took me a few days to realise it was the FL2 remote locking key was not only unlocking the Freelander but operating the doorbell also  Regards

I have had this CareUD version for two years now and it's a good product. No failures yet. There are four sensors provided and each is paired to the display using Bluetooth. The battery is a CR1616 which is user replaceable. I mounted the display just below the gear lever.

I like the silver valve caps making them look a bit less conspicuous, but don’t like the main unit needing to have power all the time, I have seen some which the main unit is solar powered, I might give one of those a look because I miss the security of a TPMS, even though I think over the past seven or eight years that our cars have had them only once did a warning go off. Regards

Slightly off topic but sort of relevant. I was talking to a guy yesterday with a Honds CRV 17 reg. He has had the car for a few weeks and recently got a TPMS message up saying that he had a rear puncture so he stopped and sure enough the tyre was nearly flat. However he had damaged the tyre by driving on it so got a new tyre the same make and size as the others on the car. He then started to get various warnings coming up including low tyre pressure again (which he measured and found was OK) so went back to the dealer. The long and short of it was that the other rear tyre had 3mm less tread on it and this was causing the car to assume that something was wrong. Apparently Honda recommend replacing tyres in axle sets. They did make an adjustment to the ECU settings which made the messages go away. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

With the TPMS displaying pressure you will be surprised how much tyre pressure changes.

A cold morning in Tasmania of 0°C & pressure dropped from 33 to 28 psi. After driving 30 minutes pressure increases 4 psi. If it is a hot afternoon with the sun of one side of the car driving for half an hour that side will be 3 psi higher than the shadow side. A lot of windy roads the front will be a touch higher the rear tyres. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
