JLR Pivotal - All-in Subscription Motoring

Just spotted this

THE FLEXIBLE ALTERNATIVE TO VEHICLE OWNERSHIP
PIVOTAL POWERED BY JAGUAR LAND ROVER

With our rolling subscription service, Pivotal, it’s easier than ever to experience the Jaguar and Land Rover portfolio.

It seems that you can have a New DS every 6 months for £750 per month - all in - Road Tax, Servicing, Insurance, Recovery.

It seems this is an extremely flexible way of owning a car, although I haven't found where the add-ons for specification, mileage, etc are.

Also not sure about the economics, or importance, of owning a brand new car is. I no longer do 30k+ miles a year at all times of the day and night.

Just had a look at the FAQs. The cars are not brand new, may be up to 2 years old. It's basically a form of car hire, for at least six months at a time. You'd probably get a better deal from a local car hire firm.

I've noticed a couple of these appear, all JLR cars. It's an interesting idea for someone with plenty of expensive cash and no time for the mundane side of car ownership. Not keen on getting used cars though - the idea of swapping your car every 6 months would suggest you want new, shiny bling, not something someone else has already used. Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental

I would find it more mundane looking after it so it is in the same condition when you hand it back. If I get a scratch, stone chips & damage the rims from gutters while parking it doesn't matter if I actually own the car outright. Not being able to do modifications to the car would defeat the purpose of having a car. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Thanks Danny, I hadn't found the FAQ section.

I don't think that it would appeal to me, as I spend some time choosing the specification of my cars even when I am looking for a second-hand car.

In fact, even when I had company cars, I took time to find the right spec, and was willing to contribute towards the lease, to find a car that would comfortably, and quickly, cover the journeys I had to make.

It looks as if instead of a 'new' car of your choosing you get a some random vehicle supplied. I can't see why I would do this unless it came at a considerable discount, and even then I am not sure I would enjoy it. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

When I had company cars which were replaced every two years my three kids used to go through all of the specs and produce a shortlist with due regard to my allowance and what I could contribute. comments like " for only £10/month extra you can get ABS and auto and the next level sound system but only if you don't have the metallic paint". 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Just had a look at the scheme and to me it looks like they are desperate to shift some approved used stock. I note that it includes everything and you can do 1500 miles/month before excess charges come in. First thoughts are that it looks interesting although as ever with finance deals if someone approaches you with a deal then they have already worked out that it's in their favour. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

^^

that was my reaction too.... as in 6 months of ownership you wont be getting a service done and even if you add up a monthly cost for VED, Insurance, breakdown etc and then add in the actual cost of finance for the stand alone car it wouldn't come anywhere close to £750 a month

Don't forget depreciation which is the biggest cost element of car ownership especially during the early life a car. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
