United Kingdom 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Firenze Red
An early Christmas present to myself!

As my Freelander was now 6 years old and had done 154,000 miles I decided it was time to get something a little newer and with less miles. The asking prices for late low mileage Freelanders were a bit high for my liking and so I thought that if I was going to spend a large wad of cash then I would get something different. I looked at the Volvo XC60 as the most likely choice as it ticked most of the boxes for me and my other choice of a Discovery Sport was just too expensive as I wanted at least the same amount of toys and equipment that my HSE Freelander had. To cut a long story short I ended up with this. HSE Luxury with Black Pack!
At 154,000miles my Freelander was still running with all original parts such as diff, haldex, wheel bearings clutch etc and in the 18 months that I had it I put 23, 000miles on it all trouble free. Diff and haldex were still on their original oils as well. I picked the 2.2 over the 2ltr as I thought it was a great engine in the Freelander and wanted to avoid any potential oil dilution problems. Can`t say it will ever be this clean ever again however!

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Fuji White

Nice one - it6 is surprising how little dirt shows on the white cars (that's my excuse anyway)

Just one observation - that rear pillar is just screaming out to be black too Whistle No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

Yes, late FL2s going at silly prices now. Cars similar mileage to my 14 reg XS are going for about the same money that I paid 21 months ago. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE

Thanks for the comments! Thumbs Up To Northcroft. I wish! I decided that I was going to treat myself when I turned 60 which was last month. I had a previous pension that paid out a small lump sum and I had been saving up for months, had a garage clearout and sold loads on Ebay etc etc and had some help from my wife as well.
The new Disco came from a Volvo main dealer and is a one owner car and I`ve done a couple of hundred miles in it since I got it yesterday. Fuel consumption seems about the same as the Freelander although it is an automatic. You sit a little lower than the Freelander and I do miss the individual armrests! It has a towbar and a spare wheel, both of which were things that I wanted so all in all very happy with it. No mods planned initially but we will see!The first thing on my to do list I think will be removing the side steps as all they seem to do is get your trousers dirty as you get out the car! Big Cry No plans to leave the forum. I did have a look at the Discosport forum but came away thinking there was to much negativity about things to make me want to join.!

So, should the C pillar, on the LR DS and door frame be painted BLACK ?????

We all remember the door tops on the first few hundred Freelander 1 (5Dr) being painted black, to blend in with the rear quarter window. This was delete due to cost and paint match at the B pillar.

On the launch models the 3Dr Freelander 1 had black paint applied to the C pillar ........... but NOT on all launch 3Dr models.

The black painted C pillar never went into production, as seen above.

I got rid of my roof platform to save 20 kg, but there is 140 kg up there but on the rough roads I put the 15.3 kg solar panels in the car & put the fuel in the tank as soon as possible to end up with 85 kg on 4 cross bars.

Wheels a bit too bling .... need to be black with decent AT tyres to carry the (supposed) 'off-road' credentials for me.

Ditto. 2008 LR2 - 211K Miles! Love this thing. In fact, i have so much affection for it, i'll now be doing all of my own repairs and maintenance because I was forced to replace my own radiator after being stood up by YourMechanic.com twice! I said eff it - found the rave manual online and did it myself since i had ordered the parts.

Another special thanks to paul for posting in the land rover forum about replacing the power steering pump, which was to be $2800. No thanks.
