Mentality of the British motorist

We were looking on cctv at an rtc on the North Circular yesterday, car sideways across the two outside lanes. Emergency services in attendance and traffic tailing back into the distance. Eventually the police allowed traffic through on the hard shoulder and inside lanes but pretty much every car that passed by the scene slowed to a standstill just to get a good look Neutral
Police were having to move them on.
Couple this with the traffic that had slowed down on the other carriageway to rubberneck we were surprised that there weren't further incidents.

Yup. Seen it a hundred times. Motorists slowing and straining their necks to get a look. Don’t even see the officer waving them on. In fact I witnessed one idiot sail into the rear of the car in front so intent was he on getting a look.

I was driving home on the M1 Northbound a few years ago while there was on an RTC being dealt with on the Southbound.
We were crawling along in the outside lane, and yes i had a quick glance as you do, but the car in front stopped and didn't carry on. About 30 seconds in and i hit the horn... only for the occupants of the car in front to get out and give me loads of verbal and hand gestures before they got back in their car and sped off at Mach speed. Shocked

As a trucker I've lost count of the times I've see people, mostly but not just car drivers having a goz,
If there was large blocks in between carriageways it would at least stop the other side for slowing down to see, Common sense isn't very common.

It's not only on the road and/or motorists... It's everywhere...
And worse, on dangerous situations (see terrorists attacks), people, instead of getting out of the scene as quickly as possible, they get closer, in order to be the first to take pictures and film the scene for posting them on facebook.
But, what the heck, there is a saying: stupid die first... natural selection. Sorry for harsh words, but true.

I've seen sometime ago, a short surveillance camera footage from somewhere on a coffee shop in Israel.
At the sound of a gunshot, all people got down on their four and orderly and quickly, on single file, they vacated the premises.
Not one looked back from where the gunshot came or, worse, to take pictures as seen on other situations.
True education for facing dangers...

I agree with you Iain , I sometimes chuckle when I read comments regarding others behaviour posted on the internet . You only have to read the stinging comments on others driving misdemeanours on the dashcam threads . The person hasn’t been born who has never made or won’t drive badly at some time over a lifetime of driving . Of course if there is a big incident on the other side of the road the traffic will slow down and people will look . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

It is human nature yes, but I can categorically say I have never stopped to stare, or got out and taken pictures or videos or anything that will cause further problems. Yes ive looked over at accidents etc, who hasn't.. but never to cause more accidents.

Yes, but it is taking it too far when someone stops and punches a driver in the face because he decided the driving was idiotic rather than check he was taken ill and trying to get to the hard shoulder.
The problem is that no one thinks today, perhaps more to do with education and their individual rights rather than their responsibilities to others. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
