Currently having a problem with my alarm randomly tripping, was driving along the other day and the bonnet sensor popped up temporarily so safe bet thats the problem.

I google'd it and seems to be a common problem, except people seem extremely vague on how they fixed it by saying they "used" a paperclip or piece of wire, how exactly I have no idea.

I realise only one release has the switch but ive also read both left and right sides are the switch, obviously its only one. Is the one circled in my pic the right one? keeping it mind its right hand drive.

Cant see the pic,have you tried giving the switch a good spray with WD40 ?

It's the other one, according to the version of the Topix manual I have. I.e. the right one as seen from the driver's seat.

Your Topix pdf is showing for a LH drive, is the same side kept for a RH drive though

I think so. At the top of the Component Location pages it says "NOTE: Left-Hand Drive (LHD) shown; Right-Hand Drive (RHD) similar." It's the only version I have.

I just looked and I have the RH drive topix version, the microswitch is in the same place irrespective of LH or RH drive, right hand side (same side as driver in this case)

No, don't short it out until you know exactly what you are looking at.

Just below the tamper switch is an airbag deployment sensor, there are two sensors mounted approx near top corners of the radiator and one is very near to your switch.

Your wires should be coloured blue/orange and black/yellow I believe, just steer clear of the airbag sensor wires.

About the only thing I can find near the hood release latch is what ive pictured, any other wires there seem to run more to the centre or to the radiator.

Ok so poked my head around a little more and found another plug that looks like it would plug right into the hood release, its also coloured blue/orange and black/yellow so im guessing thats the one.

Neighbour knows a little about electrics so i'll get him to join the wires (so its done right at least) and see if that disables it and will report back.

Neighbour couldnt get round today and im sick of being afraid to lock my car so dug out my wire strippers, cut and joined the 2 (leaving enough so I could rejoin them if it was the wrong switch) and just wrapped some more electrical tape around it.

Car starts fine, locks fine, and if I open the bonnet with the car running the message doesnt come up on the dash anymore "Bonnet open" so hopefully thats the end of my random alarm problems.

Thanks for the replies everyone, especially the gentleman who pointed out exactly which set it was. I'll post back here again if I got it wrong or still have problems just to let anyone else know reading this thread.

I had a couple of instances of my alarm going off - then, nothing
A week or so later one more - then again, nothing.
I realised that both times this happened not long after giving the car a damn good high-pressure washing.
My car is parked facing uphill (don't know if that's a factor ...).
Not sure if excessive pressure washing was definitely the cause of the alarm problem.
But since then I've washed the front of the car much more gently, no further problems.

The alarm on ours had been going off randomly, I guessed it was this switch but it was confirmed when the wife hit a pot hole and "bonnet open" flashed up on the dash.

Can't be bothered with the replacing the switch (it looks like quite a task) so i've done the paperclip trick.

Problem solved!
