ignium engine in Ewok and DS is transverse, in the Jag it is in-line and causes much less of an issue. I am going to assume that it is fitted in-line in the D5 and Velar. - can't spell longitudinal.

Just a guess but when fitted as in the Jag the emissions control equipment (SCRF/DPF or whatever) can be bolted direct to the manifold, but when fitted to the Ewok and DS it is a long way from the manifold and therefore has more active regens where the car injects fuel into the cylinders and on towards the exhaust during the exhaust stroke, and as a consequence dilutes the oil.

Long discussions about this on the DS forum - which get very acrimonious in parts - enough that I lurk here and just prey that mine doesn't need fixing. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Yeah I’ve had a brief look through it when I was having issues with the D5 3.0 to see if they were the same but then checked right back out again Laughing 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I get very wound up by that whole discussion, there are just no real facts, but a lot of opinion.

nobody has any calibration, oil dilution figures from other engines in other eu6 cars of all manufacturers.

Much is made of wear metals in oil samples , again no real calibrations. disco 5 engines are finding similar fe in oil and those are well tested engines. oil dilution in D5 is often false warning lab tests are showing low dilutions

Much of the stuff I got caned for calling out turned out to be false news in the end.

There is a problem but we may never get to the bottom of it while people on that forum just jump on the guilty without trial bandwagon. instead of looking for real evidence,

The forum hammered on for months about oil dilution causing high Fe in oil samples, but now it seems many of the high Fe samples have low oil dilution.
Id like to see samples from Merc BMW Audi eu6 oil at 12000 miles. or even from the 'problem free' Jags At work

I suppose you could always suck a litre or two out of the dipstick hole and pour in some fresh oil half way between services if you were worried about it. Not good practice I know, but garages used to do this as a quick interim oil change. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I guess there are a few lessons in this continuing tale.

1) Dont be too quick to buy a buy a new model/engine/gearbox etc - wait for others to be the long-term test guinea pigs

2) If your sump oil volume is increasing then something is wrong

3) Dont assume manufacturers have sorted major issues before putting their new vehicles out for sale

4) End of production vehicles may be the best. Jules

Mmm we had a 2000 Freelander 1 (3 years after the launch) - the last before the facelift with all the original faults and it fell apart.
We also had a 2006 Freelander 1 (the last of the ones built) absolutely brilliant, bomb proof.
We bought a 2008 Freelander2 with the Haldex 3 and no DPF - best car I have ever owned. Would you really want a newer FL2 with the DPF?

We have a 2017 model DS with the ignium engine and the jury is out, it has had a couple of issues (oil dilution and adblue "Quality"), still in love with the car.

So first off the press is likely to be flawed, but if the manufacturer is committed this will be sorted under warranty in the first couple of years. last of the line can be fully loaded well sorted and a bargain price, but the second hand value will fall like a stone.

Don't mention the Ewok Censored Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
