Scotland 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Narvik Black
Heated wing mirrors

Was out and about in the snow yesteday (great peformance by the FL2!) and noticed that my wing mirrors were snowed up. I thought there were automatic and programmed to temperature.

They only heated up when I turned on the rear window de-mister.

What is the correct mode of operation? 07 RRS Java Black

Hi Steuart 64
Had same thing in my HSE ,checked hand book and it states that they are totally automatic and require no driver intervention . Car in for 1st service end of month might get dealer to check if they are functioning right?
cheers hope this helps. Thumbs Up

My mirrors only heat up when rear screen heater is on. This used to be the same in my old Vectra.

I think the manual is deceptive. They are fully automatic, but only after you press the rear screen button!! Mr. Green

If you think about it, would you want them permanetly on?, heating up, using energy when not required?

I've accepted the need to use my finger to de-mist them. Yawn

It is better than some motors, heated mirrors come on with the ignition causing constant power drain. Not sure but I seem to remember F/L1s where like that. still pining for my 3dr, no removeable hardtop, no drop glass tailgate, no roof rack, no pockets everywhere to stow all that man kit

I am not convinced that the operation of the heated mirrors needs the rear demister on.

The manual does state automatic and no diver intervention.

Automatic implies to me a system based on need - maybe temperature.

A constant supply would not be automatic but a continual feed from the ignition.

I will be asking the dealers when I get them to fix my rear sun blind that they c**ked up last visit. They have peviously replaced a wing mirror so maybe they forgot to connect something? 07 RRS Java Black

From p106 of the manual:

"HEATED MIRRORS
The heated mirrors operate automatically when the heated rear screen is switched on."

Seems pretty unequivocal.

The FL1 did indeed keep the mirrors heated permanently. I'm undecided whether I prefer that or the FL2 method - the FL1 mirrors did seem to get a lot dirtier from dried raindrop marks, which I've not really noticed on the FL2.

Same deal on my current 2000MY peugeot: only when rear screen heat on the mirrors get heated. And' you'll see it quit easily becouse if you leave your car in the rain the mirrors never really dry up unless you switch the heaters on.

I quess it's quite useless keeping it on as when you're moving forwards no rain will fal on them again, it just would drain the battery and cost fuel otherwise.

Don't know if it sensored though, think it is just timed.

From the online manual on page 104 it states

HEATED WINDOWS AND MIRRORS
The heated windscreen is switched on by
briefly pressing the switch (4).

Note: The operation of the heated mirrors is
fully automatic, and requires no driver
intervention.

Yet again it is an ambiguoius instruction in the manual - like the PTC Heater issue

For Dick, this manual has information on Climate control and calibration of the sunroof on Pg106

My heated mirrors do not come on automatically. For them to work the heated rear screen has to be on.

Maybe it is only automatic on certain models Confused ______________________

It works automatically when you turn on the rear window heater.

I guess the use the word "automatic" becouse there's no seperate button for it and on the button for the rear window heater there's no icon for the mirrors.
