bonnet struts

How good do you guys find the bonnet struts, mine occasionally let the bonnet drop with no warning, before i replace them i just want to make sure its not a Freelander thing and they all do that. wouldnt want to waste money on new ones when i could waste it on so many other goodies for her Laughing

Have now owned two FL2s - five years' ownership in total and never had that happen. I'd say you've got one, or two, faulty/knackered struts. 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

im more concerned if it drops when theres something under there that puts a lovely little mole hill in my bonnet

I've never had a problem (2 Fr2s) Sounds like they need replacing. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

No problem here either with this one or two previous, usually they are strong enough to give a good uppercut if you don't step back quick enough.

Any evidence of fluid leakage on the struts?
Cheap enough to buy 2 and replace both for peace of mind, or you could gamble and replace just one- if that doesn't work straightaway simply swap the new one over to the other side? 2009 FL2

Always replace both at the same time.

I would say youve got a duff/faulty one there, Ive never had one go and have had a FL2 since 2009, mine will lift the bonnet on their own once lifted by about a foot or so.

Thanks Lightwater for the link I ordered the SGS ones look more robust the landrover ones are Stabilus german and do not last

Never had a problem with hydraulic struts on any car Ive owned inc 3 FL2 totalling 10 yrs. Jules

Yep, they are cheap as chips. As I live in Australia, every couple of years I do a parts order from the UK and as a matter of course I always chuck in a set of bonnet struts AND a set of boot lid struts. My wife is a bit over 6' and let's me know as soon as the boot lid isn't working to capacity!!!
Just order a new set, very easy to change and not worth mucking about with.
