United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Loire Blue

I paid £18k for my 2014 XS with 26k miles on it in 2017 fro a LR Dealer. I looked on LR Approved the other day and saw that similar age vehicles with about twice the mileage are on offer for about the same money. What's going on? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE

England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Santorini Black

retail sale prices are currently very high (there is 2013 Dynamic near me for 16.5k, same dealer has a 2013 HSE Lux for 18.5k, both with around 50-60k on the clock)

this is partially due to the lack of availability of new cars (component supply shortages) so everyone is buying used.

sadly though i think part ex prices are still at 'normal' levels so dealers are making a HUGE profit (i think the dealer above buys from auction mostly so could have paid as low as 10-12k for the HSE Lux allowing 6-8k profit/dealer costs.

You might be surprised at how much buyers are prepared to pay.
We were going to sell Gills car last year and got a quote from WBAC for around £3,500 -so didn't go ahead.
a month ago we tried again, this time my sons car, same model and colour, registered on the same day, but 10,000 miles more. WBAC quoted £4,600 and we got a couple of hundred short as it had a couple of "scratches" - not deep enough to have gone through the paint, and a professional valeter would have seen them disappear.

Sold to We Buy Any Car it and son now has Gills car - only 7,000 miles and 3 years old. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Hi

Car supermarket near use has a 2014 SD4 Dynamic with 24000 miles on clock. They want £23000 for it. Makes you wonder who would pay that.

One of my sons sold his 62 plate Porsche 911 Carerra S a couple of weeks ago, WBAC offered £57.3k for it and he sold it to a dealer for £58k. The dealer sold it a couple of days later for £64k so not such a huge markup, however WBAC came back a few days later with a revised offer of £58.8k. Crazy times indeed, in the past WBAC have refused to give valuations on cars like these. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Thanks for this info, I had missed this, it seems that this may be just the tip of the iceberg.

Other measures included in the legislation
The new provisional EU regulations also include other compulsory safety equipment such as autonomous emergency braking, data loggers (black box technology), emergency stop signal, driver fatigue detection system, lane keep assist, built-in breathalysers which won’t let you start the car if you fail, and reversing sensors or cameras.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/content/news/...-from-2022

and I thought that we went through the pain of Brexit, and half empty supermarket shelves, so we didn't have to follow Europe.

PS My FL2 now quoted at Private Sale £17140, Trade In £15400 FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 74k+ miles) (MY2015)

Sadly, a lot of people were missold on that one.
We will have to follow European vehicle legislation very closely, legislation in which we no longer have a say ☹️

Following on from your quote, I have read that in France, these devices will have to be retrospectively fitted to used cars from 2024….......it was in an English language newspaper in France, so may not be correct,........but if so, watch the prices of cars plummet.......I shudder to think of the cost and hassle of doing that ! Let's hope it's more fake news, and the UK doesn't follow suit if it turns out to be true!

Here is a link I have just found in the UK motoring press

God forbid !!!!!

So unless it's a new car, it's not going to be affected?

It is not a speed limiter - that limits the car speed physically.
It's a device to warn you that you are potentially exceeding the speed limit - be it a flashing light, a nag screen or having the accelerator pushing back.

Big difference.

A warning device can be ignored if you know that the information is incorrect, unlike for instance the Adblue system, this will disable the car if it detects that the tank is empty even if you have just filled it up, or that the Adblue is of "insufficient quality" even if you have bought it from LR.
A real PITA if the level sensor goes out of range when the tank is full, or the "quality" system algorithm is screwed by a software update. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
