No funny noises other then when the fluid runs low, topping it up instantly cures it. Steering feels fine too, no heavier then usual.

Pipes in the power steering can corrode and cause leaks, giving exactly the symptoms you describe. I've just had a section of pipe replaced, plus the reservoir and a good flush of the system. Total cost was under £250 with a local independent doing the work. |

Having had a proper look at it, it is one of the metal pipes coming down from the top into the rack that's corroded.
