United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Zermatt Silver

Rest assured, in my case no car trip was necessary to get to the boat.

I live in a marina and the boat is at the bottom of the back garden Smile

That's some job on the boat with a Da , a rotary would be better but you'd end up with arms like Popeye Thumbs Up . I bet it's quite a transformation when completed.

Yeah, the DA is slower and it is pretty awkward working off the pontoon as so many areas are below your feet which kills your back over a few days. The heavier rotary issue is probably equalled by the length of time you have to actually hold the DA to cut through the mess as the boat moves back and forth on its lines. You even have to time a pass so the the machine (or your hand) doesn’t get jammed against the pontoon as the boat comes back to you!

I much prefer doing cars as they tend to stay where you park them and have about a third of the surface area, but this type of boat DIY saves a fortune. The only thing that I have found that accelerates prices like having work done on a boat is planning a party at a venue and putting the word “wedding” in front of it Very Happy

Well today I thought my wife's car deserved a little love, washed and dried, didn't need clayed. 2 stage machine polish using menzerma compounds then topped off with the collinite 845. Not bad for 7 year old and 110k miles.
Black paint gives a much better return for your efforts!

Great job. I love correcting black paint, as you say the rewards are great getting them to look properly black rather than a grey, swirly mess.

The last black car (pearlescent) I had was a TVR Griffith. As one would expect, the paint was less than perfect with quite a bit of orange peel. So it got a wet sand to flatten that out. Did the same with my last torch red Corvette which wasn’t so bad on the orange peel but also looked pretty slick once completed.

Now with a silver Freelander and the wife’s grey SLC, I enjoy keeping them tidy but don’t have the same drive as I would on a solid dark colour to go nuts. The Merc paint is really hard, so it doesn’t marr too badly in normal use and gives good clarity without too much effort. The Freelander is a recent acquisition, and has a couple of fairly ancient looking door dings through the topcoat in car parks which I am scratching my head about, but silver is such a pig to local requiring a lot of blending to get a match. It will likely stay that way unfortunately.

So Haldex out today, oil removed - quite black, filter changed, pump removed and screen filter (which was about 50% blocked) cleaned.
A bit of a pain to do, not difficult just more involved than it needs to be with the big flange preventing the pump coming out and the filter inacessible on the top. Bought a bearing puller in order to remove the flange and it came off really easily, probably would have tapped off but another tool in the garage never goes amiss Thumbs Up
Next jobs diff oils and autobox oil changes.

Hi Bob
After reading about your experience with the stealth hid kit , I have bought the same kit for mine , just a quick query re fitting,
In the instructions it says about drilling a hole in the rear of the light fitting for the wiring, did you have to do this ?
And also swapping the leads over on the connector , can you tell me which one it is in the picture

Many thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,
I didn't need to drill any holes, the whole kit fits inside the headlamp unit. The reversed polarity cable is the black connector which goes to the original car bulb connector. Looks as if it shouldn't fit the other way round but does.
You'll only need one of the cables pictured in each light, there is a lead with connectors not required which you can cut and remove - AFTER - you have the lights working!
Easy enough to do and massive improvement over standard, you'll be impatient for it to get dark these lighter nights to try them out! Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Bulbs all in and working , as you said quite straightforward once you start, I thought is was a bit of a squeeze getting all the bits inside the headlight , but at least it's all packed tight so hopefully won't rattle about, now waiting for it to get dark to see what difference is
