Anyone had their logbook changed by fraud?

Somebody has changed me from being the registered keeper to another name
has anyone experience of this?

How do you know it's fraudulent? - could be just somebody entered the wrong (i.e. your car's) Reg. No. when doing an ownership change?

Not exactly the same but I did get a letter once from DVLA stating that a vehicle that was registered to me had been observed parked on a public road whilst the vehicle was untaxed. It listed a date, time and address of the offence. Trouble was I had never been near the place they were talking about (a couple of hundred miles away) and I had never owned or knew anything about the vehicle registration number that was supposedly registered to me (Although it was a Land Rover!) I phoned DVLA about this and was told to write to them stating that I knew nothing about the vehicle in question and that I had never owned it or had it registered to me. It did not sound like a big deal to them. I wrote to DVLA as I had been told to do and never heard any more about it from them, That was about 4 years ago! To the OP some more info on how you know it has been registered to someone else might help work out what has happened Neutral

Perhaps your car has been cloned and someone is applying for a log book? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I thought that the DVLA wouldn't change a name in a log book unless the registered keeper had sent in their tear off portion of the V5?

If they hadnt received the tear off section and someone applied to have the vehicle registered in their name, then they sent a letter to the registered keeper to tell them an application had been received and if they didn't get a response after XXX days then they would allow the transfer.

That’s how I understood it. Perhaps someone is intercepting the mail at the OP's home address? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Have to agree with McS. I had a terrible time with the DVLA over getting details changed and they were stupidly picky over the details.

I would be surprised if someone could change the address details without having part of the V5 or access to the original owners post. Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....

They did somehow, I got a letter through saying i am no longer the registered keeper and got my tax refund cheque through the post also.
Obviously i've been onto Dvla and they have confirmed this and they are currently getting me reinstated at their leisurely pace.
Ive reported it to the police, the action fraud website and advised my insurance company.
I'm fuming and not sure why they did it, would it be for a logbook loan, clone or to steal my car?

Sounds very iffy. Have to say it is just as likely to be someone at the DVLA making a mistake. Easy to leave a callers screen open and not close it when the next person calls, if you know what I mean. Learned to drive in 2011.

I have recently (This year) moved on two vehicles that I owned and all I did was go onto DVLA website, got to where it says sold/transferred/scrapped the vehicle where I entered the new keepers details hit the button and gone! No more sending the log sheet off, couple of weeks later I got the letter saying I was no longer the registered keeper.

Yours could be as has been said, fraud/clone etc.. or just hit the wrong key on the keyboard. Doing this online is a bit 'iffy' and at the time I thought it was open to mis-use.

Edit: Just remembered that I did have to enter the reference number from the Log-sheet into one of the fields, but that seemed to have been the only security measure that I can remember now. REME .. Rough Engineering Made Easy

Didn't you need to enter the code from the V5 slip as well? I transferred ownership a few months ago online and it had to be done using the code on the V5. Learned to drive in 2011.

Aren’t the the 'reference number from the Log-sheet' and the 'code on the V5' the same thing? Also known as the V5 document reference number. Thumbs Up Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

someone has used the reference number on the logbook to change keeper, Dvla said this was the case.
Cannot believe you can do this online without a signature
