A while since I looked but the front of the battery carrier case may come off having removed the odd screw etc, then the battery is more of a slide and lift and much better for the old DIY change Sheep Sheep Sheep FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I got a F21 15 months ago, not sure if it makes any difference in the long run and yours looks to have more amp hours at 85 compared to mine at 80 Thumbs Up but mine is definitely rated stop start. I always kill the stop start on each journey anyway so if its not rated for that just kill it each time and it will be fine I would imagine. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Not sure what you mean by "not rated for stop start". The stop start cars have an AGM battery which costs more (of course) but also has a different charging cycle to the normal battery. If you change the type of battery you need to have the charging parameters of the car adjusted by a dealer.

I'm not an electrician but this has been explained in other threads on the site and appears to make sense. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

I think I will be joining you.

This morning, although my FL2 appeared to start normally, I had my first Traction Control Warning message as I moved away. I stopped and switched off, and then put Ignition Only on, and was greeted by a low battery warning.
I then started engine again, and all was well with no warnings or other further problems.

I hadn't used the car for a couple of days, and in the week before that it has been mainly shortish runs in murky weather (lights, wipers, demisting, etc).

But I take it as a warning of things to come next winter. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Just fitted my new Varta F19, inspired by this thread, and ordered yesterday from Tayna, delivered lunchtime, £98 all in.

Took about 20 minutes all in all...the hardest part was getting the sodding bolt on the clamp back in the hole.... A smear of Copper Grease on the terminals and jobs a good 'un.

Original (Factory) battery was getting weaker and weaker......the recent cold mornings have probably killed a cell or two off, so thought it would be prudent to change it whilst the sun was shining.

Great service from Tayna, my thanks to those of you on here that steered me in the right direction.

For those in warmer climates who need to keep heat away from the battery I have installed some 0.25mm/3mm aluminium/fibre glass adhesive heat shield.

The two extra red cables on the battery are an Anderson plug at the end for my compressors which have a 100 amp load & the other cable to plug for a Victron 10amp charger if ever needed so I don't need to lift the bonnet.

I exchange the battery every 4 years whether it needs it or not. Not prepared to get stuck 1000km in the outback by falsely trying to saving a few dollars on a battery amortized over this time frame. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Is it my imagination or did my car sound better with my new battery? If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

Probably imagination... the new battery though seems to barely rotate the engine before it starts.

Late last year I had the 'gearbox fault - traction control reduced' message and a failing/failed door lock. I changed the lock and the gearbox fault warning went away immediately and completely but shortly thereafter, the low battery warning started.

Not really surprising as it was the original factory fit battery, the door lock may have discharged it beyond full recovery if it was constantly trying to lock the door - the car stands idle for relatively long periods - and the low battery was probably the cause of the gearbox fault warning light in the first place.

New Varta Silver F19 battery and everything is great again... until yesterday when, three months on, the gearbox fault is lighting up again - after a distance travelled from a cold start or immediately if a hot start.

I was thinking of disconnecting battery and touching leads/wait twenty minutes to see if a reset fixes it. If not, Messrs Bell's Engineering will be the next port of call. Bloody cars... just when I really have enough to worry about, time and cash wise.

At least the battery is sound though Thumbs Up
