I am looking at applying UPOL RAPTOR rubberised paint https://u-pol.com/au/brands/raptor/ to the roof to make it more durable as we will be carrying a lot of stuff on it.

I agree, no weight. It has cross bars and I plan to have my welder make a proper expedition roof rack like the one on my G-Wagon. But anything going on a roof invariably results in scratches - not intentionally, but it happens. |

I had a roof platform, but got rid of it, actually it's still in the garage. I use 4 cross bars, so there was a net weight saving of 16kg. You really need to keep the roof rack weight to a minimum, so you can actually carry something.
