Running costs on my one ain't bad, it was registered before the tax hike so £270 a year, it has a 5 year service plan and fuel economy so far 29mpg around town as to my D4s 25mpg downhill with a strong tailwind.

I ain't loaded, so it did take a bit of justifying hence I looked at others, XC90, F-Pace all weren't that far behind price wise once I started ticking options, even the V90 we were into D5 money, perhaps bigger discounts on the Volvo but the salesman just wasn't interested in selling the product to me. I haven't ruled out Volvo as the D5 replacement, I like the look of the new XC60, but I will be choosing another dealer, also the new Jaguar XF Sportbrake AWD 2.5T is appealing. My days with LR though are numbered the price is going well above what I really want to spend and its a world I don't belong in, I've been to a few launch nights and I don't fit in with the type people LR want. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Interesting, what sort of people go to LandRover launch nights then? I have been invited to a couple of Porsche launch nights (my sons buy them) and was interested to see how varied the audience was . Ranged from well healed, well dressed pensioners to business types and guys who looked like plumbers or sole traders who had showed up after work (one had his pick up truck valet parked for him). Perhaps Porsche is more of an enthusiasts market whilst LR is aspirational? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

It's very well heeled, the worst was the Evoque, it was WAG wannabes and the hyacinth bucket type. The DS launch night was more down to earth more my scene but the D5 it was all back to the well heeled and when I turned up straight from work in full uniform the looks a got, no it's no longer my world. It's sad really because I have a deep love for the brand, and most are just buying to have the latest thing. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I've always coveted a D4 but I wouldn't spend that kind of cash on a D5 as it's so bland , there's nothing unique about it , it doesn't turn heads , spending that amount of cash I would go for an XC90 or an Fpace. I know the D5 is king of off road but who is going to test it to its limits ? The 2 cars I mentioned are more than capable for 99.9% of D5 owners.

After 500 miles on the road with a 5, I can agree with you about it not turning heads. Only one person noticed it for what it was and no one else gave it a second glance. If anyone craves anonymity, this may well be the car for them Thumbs Up

It may have all the styling pizzazz of a 3 Series but, having now driven one extensively off road, this is one seriously capable off roader and the differences with things like the XC90 should not be understated; only the poor visibility, slightly girly styling and the comedy alloy wheel sizes mark this out as anything other than a serious off road contender Very Happy

I often wince when I hear the "99.9%" figure quoted. I jump at any opportunity to get my D4 mucky and there are others that feel the same Thumbs Up

I have had my D5 for 2 days now.
Wouldn't ever call it charming. But it isn't that bad looking.
It's s mile better built than the DS. Time will tell on reliability etc
May post a pic later....

Nice, but it's only a car!

Did a similar thing, when semi-retiring I moved down from my D4, to a nice, white, fast sports tourer.
Liked it at first, then realised it was only a car and I missed the general feeling of not driving a 4x4 (eg larger vehicle).
I especially missed that it wasn't a Land Rover.
Oh, and I was driving much faster!
Hence back to the brand nearly 3 years ago with the FL2.

However, enjoy it, only time will tell if you get the same feeling I got. Thumbs Up FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

Nice, I do like an estate. I had a look at the V90 D5 Inscription before purchasing the Disco, the Volvo is a lovely looking motor, though would like to see it available with the T6 engine. I'm not sure I would have another Disco or LR product for that matter so the big Volvo will be on the cards. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200
