Headlight Modification

Hello,

Managed to get hold of headlamps on different sellers on ebay. However there seems to be a reflector on one and not on the other. As in the picture below. Can anyone explain how to get rid of the reflector on the driver side ( Top picture) please?

Have had good results in the past baking headlights in oven to remove clear front plastic to modify internals. Bake again to reseal + add some silicone. Not done Land Rover ones though.

Would depend on how much I'd just paid for those new ones to be honest! Not without risk, but is a job to do slowly and not rush and try and force.

looking at the picture it would seem you have bought a 2013-2014 spec headlight with the clear background and also a 2015 spec headlight with the black background.

Don't ask me why they changed it in the final year, just another LR quirk, and im not sure if they can be changed at all. You might be better off trying to source a matching 2015 one if you can or vice versa. Then sell on the unused one.

agree with last post. MY2015 SE, SE tech and Metropolis all got black reflectors in a bid to modernise the look- which worked in my opinion. can't see exactly from your photo but i think the black version also has the signature strip ? ( thin strip of LED daytime running lights round the headlight. the earlier clear version looks not to have this strip? are they both halogen units- can't read the identifying label? all Metropolis are black reflector with HID.
hope this helps FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

Yes they are halogens. I bought and adopter from ebay £240. Felt like someone stabbed me in the heart after I clicked “Buy Now” but they are worth it.

I fitted HID conversion kit based on a recommendation from this forum and oh my god. Its amazing ( lets not start the MOT debate. Been there than it. I passed Mot’s with my previous cars with HiD fitted)

Would have been nice if the signature strips comes on for few seconds when you unlock the car. Think its just landrover couldn’t be bothered. Overall...I’m happy.
