The wife and I did our LR Experience last Saturday, which was really great The weather was pretty awful which of course was perfect for the purpose Wet slippery ice and light snow conditions (in places) and during the course it rained making the traction quite interesting as well. Of course photographs do not do full justice to what we experienced, but here are a couple to illustrate.

.........did the FL2 live up to your expectations ?

The course looks pretty tough..........!

The Experience course was just the introductory one that was included in the package we purchased with our FL2 a year ago. We got a complementary “whole day Experience” included, which we swapped for 2x half days so that my wife could take part at no extra expense. After a short introduction, we did ca. 1.5 hours driving, lunch then another 2 hours driving – so quite good value if you have to purchase this yourself.

The instructor drove each section first and explained what to do and what not to do in each situation, then each of us did the same section a couple of times. During the later sections, when we had “warmed up a bit”, we could choose re-driving any of the sections we wanted. Although some parts looked a bit hairy at first, it was surprising how quickly you get into the swing of things – in fact it was really great and educating. Unfortunately we didn’t get any photos or video of the best bit of the course. At the end of the day I was already looking to doing a more advanced course later although in reality for the type of off-road driving we normally do, it would only be for fun.

The course was well worth it and the wife did as well as anybody else. Maybe I can trust her with our beloved FL2 alone in the winter mountains in the future The FL2 performed fantastically although we did get stuck for a while on the slippery logs, but also learnt how to get free again. Learning a bit more about how and when to use the different Terrain Response controls will be very useful in the future, that is absolutely for sure. Using Hill Descent Control was incredible and will also come in handy for one slippery we have to negotiate occasionally – excellent stuff and thoroughly recommended .

On the first photo, it shows that apparently the plastic protection of the right front door came off. This happens quite easily. I had the same "experience" last year...

they do look easy to put back on, though i have heard you might need to buy a few of the plastic clips as these break easy.

That bit was missing before we started However another equally long piece fell off at the slippery logs but that also seemed to be an easy clip on bit from under the door sill. A third much smaller plastic bit got somewhat chewed - also at the slippery logs - not sure were that came from A lot of rubbber was also burnt here trying to get free, so I am glad it was not my own FL2  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

I lost my (1 year ago), but there was no problem with getting it fixed again. It has not fallen off again, and I'm much "off road".

Oh, oh, I was wrong. I just checked it out and must admit it was the panel behind the door that came off. That one is fixed to the carbody and possibly by another type of clips.

Anyway, a similar type of playmobil-like plastic attachements ... and in my opinion unacceptable for a car LR claims to be highly suitable for off-road use.

I like the design of the door bottoms and the way they keep the sills clean, the frangible clips are a good feature imho, better a few clips than a bent door panel. still pining for my 3dr, no removeable hardtop, no drop glass tailgate, no roof rack, no pockets everywhere to stow all that man kit

Ooooohhhhh, I am envious. I havent got'n around to that yet. And LRE is just down the road from where I live. I can practically walk there (almost. Just 30 km or so)

Viking - Our LRE was at Skien - thought you were at Stavern, thats more than walking distance  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Hm, -well, yes..... I think of Skien as just down the road, but according to the map, it is 47,1 km from my doorstep to LRE in Skien. Perhaps a little long walk, yes.....
