United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White

Surely a LR2 does have the capability of locking the central drive shaft and therefore providing same torque to both axles.

Also if it's an automatic the torque converter provides very low gearing before the gearbox locks its clutch.

What it doesn't have in soft sand is enough tyre contact area or ground clearance.

Needs tank tracks perhaps? FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

The only thing lacking in an FL2 is ground clearance. It is all that has ever pulled me up. The auto box, traction system and 400nm tourque have been able to deal with any surface or gradient I've thrown at it, but you can't get past ground clearance. It needs another 100mm which isn't possible. There are other cars coming out without low range and with auto boxes and good tc, the VW Amarok auto comes to mind.
Every 4wd will bog on sand if you don't let the tyres down. We drive on sand out here all the time, see drivers go straight onto the beach without letting their tyres down and immediately know 2 things, they don't know what they are doing, and they will get bogged. It doesn't matter what car they are driving or whether it has lockable diffs or low range.

Low range and diff lock is making a lot different indeed, that's why LandRover put low range in LR3/LR4 and range rover, it's not cheap feature and it comes for a purpose.

The same they put with diff lock (central) on LR3/LR4 and range rover product.
For rear diff lock some of them has it some others have only open differential and might need to customize with product like ARB air locker
