It's because ...

A) the majority can't afford one, therfore it's rubbish
B) it is overpriced, so it's rubbish
C) the hi tech stuff doesn't work, so it's rubbish
D) the command driving position is gone, so it's rubbish

It does have rather more space inside though, .... for lots of rubbish Laughing

In all seriousness, it is not that bad, I enjoyed the time I had with it but it lacks something, it doesn't feel a step up from the FL2, which given the latters age, it should.
I am looking forward to your thoughts though Thumbs Up

To be fair, they do make excellent service loan cars Thumbs Up

It takes a while to adjust to driving it, especially with the revvy 2.0 Ingenium engine, its low seating and very car like drive but, once you get used to it, it's very reminiscent of the best bits of my old 1.6 petrol Astramax van Rolling Eyes Heck, that was 30 years ago and there are still fond memories, even if a fair amount of the Astramax really was a bit sh**! Laughing

If you're doing a lot of road miles and don't need loads of space it's a great car.

Naturally, it goes without saying, you're mad to swap a nice FL2 for a DS Wink but the best of luck to you all the same and hope it's the right choice for you Thumbs Up

I drove up to the dealer in Bradford to check the car over yesterday (As I hadn't actually seen in it in the flesh) and went for a 20 mile drive.

First impressions are very good.

The negatives -

Yes, the seating position in the Freelander is a little higher, but after looking at the figures, the DS's seat is only 1" lower than the Freelanders, so you are still higher than mr averages car, but I agree not quite as high. Is this going to bother me? No not at all.

The rear view visibility is hindered a little bit by the shape of the car, but not enough to make me think, oh my god this is Censored . (Think Evoque)

The arm rests have gone, but the centre console is high enough and the arm rest on there is adequate.

The ride is a little firmer, but not in a way that spoils it.

The good points -

Extremely comfortable and is for sure at least as comfortable as the Freelander 2.

The steering is very precise compared to the Freelander, and the car feels planted to the road rather than the 'floaty' feel of the Freelander. Thats not a bad thing about the Freelander, as I have enjoyed them for over 9 years.

The trade off is the 'slightly' firmer ride, but I really like that.

Build quality seems perfectly good, no rattles, squeaks or anything like that.

I haven't played with all the toys yet, as i'll do this when I get it home.

With regards to the engine, and I am a big fan of the 2.2 Freelander engine, but the ingenium engine is so more more quieter than the 2.2, throttle pick up is sharper (mines the 180 auto) and less laggy than the 2.2. Maybe this is because it has 9 speed than 6 on my current car. But very smooth, and I can understand why the press have said the DS should never have been launched with the old engine.

Over all, I was impressed. The Freelander was, and still is a great car, and if circumstances change in the future, would I buy another Freelander? Yes of course, in a heart beat.

But time moves on in car design, and yes I have been fortunate enough to get an HSE Luxury, so it does have all the toys. It does feel different to drive than the Freelander, but it still drives like a Land Rover which I like.

I test drove the X3 (good car, but crap SUV), Audi Q5 (lets not go there), Mercedes GLC, exquisit interior and quick in 250d guise, but boring looks and a noisy diesel, also test drove the 400bhp GLC43 AMG, and that was epic!

The new VW Tiguan is also a good car, but just felt boring to drive.

The Cirrus interior is nice, coupled with the pano roof creates a nice atmosphere.

Not the best pic

We were happy to buy either with cash. Even looked at a few RR Sport but the size of our garage was an issue. The DS is a nice car but probably would go for a Mazda but a CX-9 would have been too long. My sister has an Evoque but it is a lot smaller in the back & does not have a proper 5th wheel.

Would be interested to hear why you thought the X3 was a crap SUV? BMW X3 30d M Sport - Current (problem free)
