Peter Alliss, 89. Family say it was peaceful yet unexpected; he only commentated on the Masters last month.

I watched that, but he sounded different, I wasn't even sure if it was Peter Alliss commentating.

I caught some of him commentating and like you had to double check it was him; he was working from home, but still didn't sound like he used to. He always had a very distinctive, witty manner about him, he'll be missed

"Chuck Yeager's Air Combat" PC game was the first game for which I needed a joystick.
His autobiography was a great read too. Jules

My favourite bit of Peter Alliss Commentary:

Ken Brown: "Blimey, just look at the state of that scorecard, you'd need Carol Vordeman to add that up."
Peter Alliss: "Carol Vorderman....I like her...I was watching her the other day and got aroused."
Commentary Booth:....silence...muffled shocked laughter...".
Peter Alliss: "Oh come on that's not bad....seven letters for a guy who left school when he was fifteen".

Very Happy Very Happy

Sad. Absolutely love the "Carry On" films.
Of course she played Peggy Mitchell in later years , but can anybody name the girl in blue in the above clip ?
Clue : She starred in a 1970's sitcom and like our Babs, also had a part in Eastenders.

Are you related to the Beales of Albert Square?

It's been the bane of my life . There were only 2 Beales in the Birmingham telephone directory before 1985 - my dad and grandad. Within 12 months of that wretched programme airing there was somehow 26 Beales in the directory- none of whom were related to us. 10 years later, 3 whole pages, again none related to us.
Of course, the wettest character in that terrible show had to be called Ian.
The upshot of this is that I've never been taken seriously because of it. It's been 35 years of mental torture, too.
Ian

I used to work with David Cassidy, Noel Coward and John Smith, they all hated the stick they get. Common sense isn't very common.

Not only did he write, but he inspired others to write - that is the best gift of all.
