Thinkware cameras

Hi, I'm thinking of replacing my dash cam, to something of a later specification, I believe some on here are using the Thinkware cameras, how good/reliable are they any problems at all?

i have a thinkware F750, dual camera and it is loads better than the Blackvue it replaced

The power saving features are built in, so no need for the blackvue power magic, the pictures loads better and best off all, i updated the firmware to the same as the F770, so instead of parking recording, i get parking timelapse footage as well as it showing the speed on the clips now

If i was to buy one now i think the F770 as its a little more sleeker looking

I would also buy the larger memory card version as they are very particular to which they will accept, after buying 3 i gave up, and i won't pay thinkwares premiums for the upgrades

Sample clip (make sure setting are 1080p for quality)

PS As a after thought, the speed camera database is good feature, if you can hear the announcement over the radio, the lane departure and getting to close to the car in front setting are annoying after a day or two Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I've got a Thinkware F750 dual camera with upgraded software to F770 like Nick and I'm very pleased with it Thumbs Up

I have had 3 Blackvue previous - 1st I gave to my daughter, 2nd GPS stopped working and had to be replaced with 3rd I gave to my son when I got the Thinkware - both my son and daughter BVs are now faulty and unreliable Rolling Eyes

The BV software is better for phone and PC but the Thinkware appears to be more reliable and better quality video especially from rear Cool

The BV was more discreet on windscreen than the TW but if it doesn't work it doesn't matter how discreet it is Whistle

I had a problem with GPS signal on the DS due to solar attenuating windscreen when I tried to hide it behind mirror and some have issues with it blocking the Auto High Beam Assist in that position - it was solved by psitioning in centre of screen below mirror as per TW instructions - no issue on current Mitsubishi as it doesn't have heated/solar screen Thumbs Up

Agree the speed camera alert is useful (you can adjust volume) the LDW and Collision alert are switched off as drove me crazy Rolling Eyes

Thanks guy's that's good feedback, Thumbs Up
I recon I will be investing in one soon, but as I've got privacy glass I'll not be able to use a rear cam Mad
yes I imagine front collision alert setting and Lane departure warning could get annoying,
Muddywheels, I've taken note of any mounting issues it may have.
some good shots Muddywheels of snow, ah snow long time not seen Sad

funny people assume that privacy glass, will mean that the cameras wouldn't work, but from inside you can see out perfectly well with your eyes...... heard a few people say similar Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

i think they have auto white balance and things that get round the darkness

The only thing i have noticed is the fronts can have security lights on or off the rear has a blue light on all the time, and i havent seen a way to turn it off

no big issue but at night a blue light can be seen from outside which highlights electronics been in the car etc Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I have switched off front warning leds but can't find way to switch off rear either - you can unplug rear camera to disable light but would defeat object - I always reverse into parking spaces so the front is the main camera and the rear led isn't that noticeable with privacy glass Cool Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Could it be taped over or do feel it would be a heat issue?

I personally wouldn't worry about it - I've had dashcams for some years now and hardwired them to ensure they record while parked and haven't worried about them being stolen yet - I've swapped vehicles few times while I've had dashcams and it's not going to be a quick smash and grab unlike sucker mounted devices with cigar lighter leads Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
