Wren kitchens

Anyone had any dealings with them?

Early stages of planning a new kitchen and quite liked some they had whilst wondering around today

Been to others this weekend, Kutchen Haus, Magnet and Howdens have been out last week did a design, but obviously didn't listen to my MO Rolling Eyes

Also, Neff or Bosch seems to have nice ovens, are they worth the extra money? Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Only tip I can give is don't get a Neff gas hob with a glass top. I bought one of those 5 burner models with a wok thingy in the middle. Cost a bloody fortune and looked absolutely cracking first day but nightmare to keep clean from then on - went against wife's advice and didn't hear the last of it!! Changed it for a wipe clean 5 burner Neff gas stainless hob. Hoo-ray! Bring out the frying pan! Laughing Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Think I'm going Induction hob,

Had gas which stand on those Cast iron stands for the old hob and they are a Censored to keep clean, and grease clings to them

So thinking nice wipe clean glass induction Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Other thing I didn't like when chatting to Wren is they won't release plans during design stage until I have paid deposit

Which is annoying as I often look to my choice of fitter and would want to have a plan to discuss as Magnet messed up and missed end panels out on a couple of items and this throwed the figment out Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

There is a place on Langthwaite Grange, South Kirkby, that trades as DIY-Kitchens.com, they are called Ultima Furniture Sytems and all the carcasses are made there for kitchens and office furniture. They offer several levels of carcase from flat packed to fully assembled. They will make non standard to order The showrooms there were bigger and better than anything I've seen anywhere. We ended up buying a lot from them . I think they may also have a place in Sherburn. You can order on the internet , but you can also ring up and as you are local make an appointment to go view. They also supply an awful lot of the Kitchen Specialists who come out with their own brochures. Well worth a call to the South Kirkby number see if they are still doing the same even if it's just to get ideas.

ref Bosch, Neff, etc, apparently Siemens are the "Gold Standard" , then Bosch and Neff close . I've had the mid range Bosch hob, cooker , microwave, and dishwasher for 5 years, worked perfectly, look as good as the day they went in , just sheets of black glass , except the dishwasher which is fitted with a faux unit door. just one £60 repair to the latch on the microwave door at 4 years, and a service back up that was first class 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Our indesit double oven has done well over the years and still looks good with its mirrored effect front glass. Good choice with the induction hob...we found the john Lewis branded one brilliant. Would never go back to gas hob or ceramic hobs. These inductions are a dream to use and a dream to keep clean. So glad we had an extra electric cooker point added near the gas hob when we had the kitchen changed made it easy to fit.

We've bought B&Q kitchens for self assembly and they've been fine. Had Homebase ones previously but they looked like the carcass thickness had been reduced.

For what it's worth my geologist son reckons that he has never seen a granite worktop. All of the ones he has seen are sedimentary or metamorphic rocks. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Whatever kitchen you buy get a professional firm to fit it - walls are very rarely square. Induction is the way to go but I think you need steel or copper bottomed pans rather than aluminium. Finally, if you go for granite do not go for the fancy underslung sink with grooves in the granite but go for a Belfast type sink or stainless from the likes of Franke and DO NOT go for black granite, like our FL2's you will be for ever cleaning it Smile

At the end of the day you get what you pay for - cheap is invariably a false economy. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

I would also be interested to know if anyone has used wren. The wife and I had a consultation today with wren in Swindon. We picked nef ovens as they are good. Wren said we would be able to find all the appliances cheaper elsewhere though. The price seemed ok but then we asked for it a bit cheaper and the manager did the "I can get you a good discount but I can't guarantee that discount after today so you would need to put down 10% today". I was about to buy the kitchen but this comment put me off (and he stunk of fags).

So I will look elsewhere for now and then possibly go back to wren later.

They would not print off the design but we clocked all the details and drew it up when home, they printed off all items and prices for us.

So it is worth the free design consultation with wren.

Had a composite sink at the old house and that stained, got warned the black composite stain white with bleach so thinking ceramic this time

Did Wren print off a list of items to generate the price? Just not give your plans/Drawings?

I have measurements and planned a Wren kitchen I quite like and am going down them coming out for measuring Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

One of my boys has had Wren do his kitchen, he's happy with the kitchen and the fitting. Just make sure your clear on what they are doing, they can get expensive if it is more than just fitting the kitchen. He's had the tiling, ceiling made good and flooring done by others, Wren don't want this work, so it's up to the installer if he wants to do it, if he doesn't be sitting down when he gives you the price.
Oh and twice the fitter failed to arrive during the fitting, no phone call nothing, he was having time off work whilst they were fitting, he negotiated £400 off the final payment. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Agreed.

True granite and commercial granite are different beasts.

We changed our hob for an induction one a few years back - you must make sure that your pans are steel for them to work (we had to buy a new set), it is very controllable almost to the level of a gas hob but the surface does not get anything like as hot so making it very safe if there are little hands around.

The only advice that I would give is to spend a little more and buy a decent brand - NEFF (we have) or Bosch
