I have a charging problem my 2014 Freelander 2 sd4 will not charge above 12.4 volts but if I open any door it starts charging at 14 volts but when I close the door it goes back to 12.4 volts
I am confused has anyone else had this or knows what the problem is ?

Probably ok when the revs are lifted off idle. If you’re not getting a flat battery and the warning light is off , maybe you haven’t got a problem.

Good evening, not 100% sure 2014 freelander 2s have smart charge system installed, maybe not? But as fellow Ced mentions maybe you haven’t got a fault with his comments.
A friend of mine has the latest Evoque but not the hybrid one, when we connected his caravan to the car the caravans leisure battery only showed 12.4volts, but when opening the boot lid the voltage increased to 14.6. Coincidence.
Maybe someone with similar vehicle on the forum could test theirs?
Mines a 2009 and certainly does not have smart charge, I have only just exchanged the battery for a upper cold cranking amperage level, funny tho the battery specialist asked me this..? Vrm, as a common question, Start stop? Smart charge?
Bit of a coincidence you asking this regarding the 12.4 voltage threshold.
